In our final Mental Health Awareness Month post, two students from Crescent Valley High School discuss a student-led book drive they are hosting at their school. They share how student-led initiatives can significantly boost mental health for both the givers and the receivers, and offer an accessible way to contribute to a positive solution and feel deeply connected to their community.

Watch the video to hear from the students and learn more about their project.

In today's Mental Health Awareness Month post, we are focusing on the importance of communication and connection.

One of our therapists models an important coping skill: identifying a trusted friend, sharing how you feel, and asking for help. In the video, he demonstrates exactly what this conversation can look like. Importantly, he models a scenario where the person doesn't even know what kind of help they need yet. He reminds us that it is completely okay to just start by sharing that you are struggling.

Today for Mental Health Awareness Month, we are sharing a physical regulation skill used to help students manage stress, anxiety, or excess energy.

It involves a simple wall-pushing exercise. By pushing firmly against a wall for five seconds, students engage their muscles in a way that sends calming signals to the nervous system. This helps release physical tension and re-centers their focus.

Watch the video to see this quick physical reset you can do anywhere!

Exciting news for our Film and Video CTE students! After submitting a record 13 entries to the Oregon Youth Employee Safety contest, our students earned their first-ever 1st-place finish and took home two of the top three spots statewide.

Congratulations to 1st Place winner Carlos Vanegas (CVHS) for “Beat the Heat,” and 3rd Place winners Toni Kimmel (CVHS), Dilara Ates (CHS), and Sky Fu-Ramsey (CHS) for “Dehydrated Cowboy.” Kudos also to finalists Gray Hendricks (CHS) and Finn Hopson (CHS) for “Scorchingly Unsafe.”

Oregon OSHA and the district will use these videos for heat safety training this spring. Great work, Mr. Freedman and these talented creators, for using your skills to help keep workers safe!

Today, for Mental Health Awareness Month, we are sharing a grounding exercise often used with students to manage feelings of overwhelm or anxiety.

This skill works by engaging the five senses to pull a student’s focus away from racing thoughts and back to their physical surroundings. By identifying things they can see, touch, hear, smell, and taste, students can effectively "reset" their nervous system and return to the present moment.
