The Division was proud to once again assist with security operations at the Newport Jazz and Newport Folk Festivals over the past two weekends.

These iconic events are made possible through the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies from across Rhode Island, working together to help ensure the safety and security of thousands of guests and the performers so all can enjoy the music and festivities.

Today, Chief Paul Martellini and Deputy Warden Rachel Bray of the RI Department of Corrections proudly recognized Deputy Russell Embrey for his swift, decisive, and life-saving actions in response to an individual in medical distress. On July 1, 2026, Deputy Embrey and a Correctional Officer responded immediately when an inmate at the RI Department of Corrections experienced a medical emergency. Together they administered life-saving CPR. Chief Martellini stated that “at that moment, Deputy Embrey put our core values into action, showing dedication to duty and quick thinking.”

Deputy Embrey’s immediate response, professionalism, and commitment to the safety and well-being of others reflect great credit upon himself and the Division.
