Math students put their algebra skills to the test with a project focused on maximizing a polynomial model. Using given measurements, students designed and constructed 3D boxes out of poster paper, then selected a product to inspire their packaging design. From creative snack packaging to other product ideas, students applied mathematical concepts to a real-world challenge while exploring how polynomial models can be used to maximize volume. Some students even brought in the snacks featured on their boxes to share with the class, adding a fun and tasty element to the learning experience!

Ecology students recently took their learning outside the classroom on a field trip to a local river, where they sampled macroinvertebrates and fish species to assess the overall health of the river ecosystem. By observing and identifying the organisms living in and around the water, students gained a deeper understanding of how biodiversity and species populations can indicate water quality and environmental health. This real-world investigation allowed students to apply their classroom knowledge while exploring the important connection between aquatic life and a healthy ecosystem.

Mrs. Mitchell is a Culpeper native who is in her 16th year of teaching, including two years at CMS before coming to CCHS. One of her favorite things about CCHS is the students and the theatre program they have built together. While she is proud of the program’s award-winning success, she is even more proud of the students behind it, who challenge her, inspire her to grow, and make all the hard work worthwhile. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Mitchell enjoys spending time with her husband and two boys. Whether she’s cheering from the sidelines at her son’s baseball games, golfing, fishing, or traveling and making memories with her family, she loves staying busy and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Our Little Blues Preschool had a wonderful time celebrating the season at our Fall Festival! The children enjoyed a variety of fun games and activities, including a corn pit, slide, pumpkin painting, and so much more. It was a special day filled with laughter, creativity, and lots of fall fun! We loved seeing our Little Blues make sweet memories and enjoy all the excitement of the season.

Today, Mrs. Elkins’ second-semester Statistics student focused on developing the skills needed for next week’s polling field trip. The student began exploring some of the material ahead of time while practicing the skills that will be important during the experience. This preparation will help the student feel more confident when collecting and working with polling data in a real-world setting. The field trip will provide a valuable opportunity to apply statistical concepts beyond the classroom.

Staff Spotlight: Mrs. Mills works in our English department! This is her eighth year in education, and her favorite part of teaching is watching her students grow into confident, successful individuals. Therefore Graduation Day is her favorite day of the year! Originally from Spotsylvania, Virginia, she loves traveling and has visited over 20 countries in the past 10 years.
