The Task Force for Global Health's Fiscal Year 2025 annual report “Before & After: Sustainable Results” is live! Despite the many shifts experienced in global health over the past year, The Task Force and our partners continued to advance innovation and achieved significant progress in capacity-building and sustainability in nearly 140 countries.

This report follows the journey from when we first saw a problem, took coordinated action with partners, and developed solutions in ways never before imagined. It celebrates the detections, diagnoses, and decisions made by our programs and offers inspiration to those seeking to innovate and reimagine public health systems all over the world, because understanding the before and after of each initiative equips us for the health risks of tomorrow.

Research has shown that routine vaccine infrastructure improves a country's ability to respond during a pandemic. These findings underscore the importance of our PIVI program, which works with partners to create sustainable vaccination programs in low- and middle-income countries. Today, we’re highlighting Dr. Malembe S. Ebama, Director of SONAR (Strengthening Outbreak Notification and Response). Dr. Ebama brings a unique perspective to The Task Force for Global Health, with a career spanning from HIV prevention to providing technical support for global vaccine initiatives. She leads SONAR’s mission to strengthen early-warning surveillance systems across Africa and Asia, ensuring countries have the infrastructure and policies needed to identify outbreaks at their earliest stages.

Her current work includes a Global Fund-supported Climate and Health initiative across six African countries that helps predict outbreaks like malaria and cholera by tracking climate patterns. Additionally, she leads a Gates-funded project in Africa and Asia focused on RSV. By gathering evidence on how this virus affects communities, her team is paving the way for life-saving vaccines to be introduced through Gavi.

Dr. Ebama’s leadership in workforce development and sustainable health investment continues to shape how we protect community health worldwide.

“As we approach Mother’s Day, I’ve found myself reflecting on this brave new mother in Zambia and the people who have shown up at the right place and the right time in my own life.”

Amanda Bolster, Director of Communications and Development at the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI), shares about her time in Zambia, where The Task Force for Global Health’s PIVI program, and its partners like Ciheb-Zambia, are supporting a dual vaccination campaign to protect health workers against influenza and hepatitis B.

While visiting a rural health center, Amanda and her colleagues encountered a mother in active labor with life-threatening complications. With the nearest ambulance an hour away, PIVI’s partners and the on-site nurses stepped in to assist with the delivery, saving mother and baby.

Vaccination programs do more than prevent disease. They ensure that frontline health workers remain healthy and available to provide critical care to their communities, strengthening the local health system and protecting future generations. 📖 Read the full story here: https://bit.ly/4dlc3CW
