📚 Learning, Connecting, and Growing! 🤝 At DDRC, we're committed to continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration to better serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). That's why we're excited to be attending the Alliance Colorado Summit, September 1–3!

As Colorado's leading voice for policies that strengthen services and improve lives for people with IDD, Alliance Colorado brings together providers, case management agencies, early intervention brokers, advocates, and others from across the state and country to share ideas and inspire positive change.

Our President & CEO, Amy Grogan, and Chief Operating Officer, Conlan McGough, were grateful to spend time at the 2026 Colorado Summit in Breckenridge this week—surrounded by more than 400 professionals, leaders, advocates, and partners committed to advancing the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The Alliance Summit is Colorado’s premier gathering for the IDD community—a space to exchange ideas, share strategies, build connections, and strengthen the future of the IDD system. And this year, we’re bringing a few reflections home with us:

🤝 We are stronger when we work together. The challenges facing people with IDD and their families are bigger than any one organization. Collaboration, partnership, and shared advocacy matter.

❤️ The work is deeply human. Behind every policy, program, funding decision, and system conversation are people and families whose lives are directly impacted by our collective efforts.

🌱 There is important work ahead. And we’re grateful to be doing it alongside so many thoughtful, committed leaders across Colorado and beyond.

🧠 Different perspectives make us stronger. Dr. Temple Grandin’s closing keynote was a powerful reminder of the value of different perspectives, strengths, and ways of seeing the world.

Thank you to the Alliance for creating the space to learn, challenge one another, build relationships, and keep moving this work forward.

(Plus, it’s a bonus when you get to do this important work in beautiful Breckenridge, CO. 💙)

Earlier this week, President and CEO Joe Macbeth traveled to Breckenridge, Colorado, where he delivered the opening keynote address, The Emerging Roles and Changing Expectations of the Direct Support Workforce, at The Alliance's annual conference. The Alliance is Colorado's statewide provider association representing Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) provider agencies, case management agencies, early intervention brokers, businesses serving the IDD community, and disability advocacy organizations.

During the conference, Macbeth also joined colleagues Lindsay Menough and Kerrianne Rigney from DDRC to present a session titled, Incentivizing Excellence: Our NADSP E-Badge Academy Strategy, highlighting innovative approaches to workforce development and professional recognition in the direct support profession.

Colorado is at its best when everyone can participate in the traditions that bring us together. This year’s Colorado State Fair is expanding accessibility for guests with disabilities through free on-demand ASL and visual interpretation, mobility upgrades, the Exceptional Rodeo, and a Sensory Friendly Day with smaller crowds, softer sounds, and dimmed lighting. I’m grateful to everyone helping Coloradans of all abilities feel welcomed, included, and free to enjoy the Fair at their own pace.

Alliance is deeply saddened by the passing of Representative Lois Landgraf, a true champion for Coloradans with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We were honored to recognize Rep. Landgraf with our 2014 Alliance Wait List Champion Award for her leadership and commitment to eliminating waiting lists and ensuring Coloradans with disabilities have access to the services and supports they need. We are grateful for her service, her advocacy, and the lasting impact she made on our community.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues.

Lois Landgraf spent her life in service to Colorado, first in Fountain, then in the State Capitol, and always in her community. Her dedication to Coloradans, especially our veterans, left a lasting mark on El Paso County and our state. On Saturday, we lower our flags to honor her memory and the example she set for public service.
