Slavens School

Slavens School Slavens Elementary School was constructed in 1956. Twenty-six years later, in 1982, a declining school population caused Slavens to close.

Slavens K-8 School, located in southeast Denver, provides a rich academic experience that builds a foundation for every student to become a compassionate, ethical and productive global citizen. After fourteen years of darkened classrooms, the tireless efforts of former students and community members persuaded DPS to reopen Slavens in 1996. Today, the Slavens School radiates with a spirit of warmth

, discipline, humor and excellence. We have a challenging academic program that supports every child as a learner of worth and dignity. We strive to personalize teaching to ensure that all students learn to read critically, write effectively, speak articulately, and think logically and creatively in all disciplines including mathematics, the sciences and social studies. We offer vigorous physical education, community service opportunities and the lively pursuit of the arts. All of this provides a profound and well-balanced education for each and every student. The school atmosphere is such that all students are called upon to be trustworthy, kind, honest and fair. We work with students to be respectful of oneself, of property and of all members of the school community. As students assume ever greater responsibility for their studies and their lives, they develop the natural pride and self-confidence that comes with accomplishment. Parents are involved in all aspects of the school from helping in the classroom to guiding the future of Slavens as members of the Collaborative School Committee (CSC). The PTA presents parent educational programs, raises funds, coordinates volunteer activities and sponsors social events that serve to strengthen school and community ties. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the partnership between school and home.

Summer E-Bike Safety

Slavens has partnered with the Southern Hills Community Association and community member Matt Baline to create an E-Bike Safety Guide for families and community members.

As e-bike use continues to grow among youth, so does the importance of understanding safe riding practices, Colorado laws, and the differences between various types of electric bikes and motorized vehicles.

We encourage families to review the attached guide together and use it as an opportunity for conversation and learning this summer.

Thank you to SHCA and Matt Baline for helping support a safer community for all.

Today, there is no school in observance of Memorial Day. As we enjoy the long weekend, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice and courage will never be forgotten.

We look forward to welcoming students back tomorrow for a great last week of school!
