🎓 Alumni Highlight: Brandon Beal, Derby High School Class of 2025

For the month of June, Brandon Beal, a 2025 graduate of Derby High School, is performing with the National Symphony Orchestra through its Summer Music Institute at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute (NSO SMI) is an international orchestral music festival that provides full fellowships to every accepted participant, covering tuition and housing throughout the program. The institute brings together some of the nation's and world's most accomplished young musicians, offering opportunities to work one-on-one with leading artists and educators.

This year, fellows represent 17 states and six countries, with many participants coming from prestigious conservatories and university music programs. During these concerts, Brandon is performing in several featured events, including appearances with the festival's woodwind quintet on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, the Brass Ensemble in the River Pavilion and two orchestra concerts in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall.

The festival will culminate with a performance of Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák, where Brandon will serve as principal horn, a distinguished leadership role within the orchestra.

For musicians, the opportunity to perform with one of the nation's premier orchestras on one of its most iconic stages is an extraordinary honor. Reaching this level reflects exceptional talent, years of dedication and a deep commitment to the craft.

We are and excited to celebrate this incredible milestone. Congratulations, Brandon, and best wishes for an unforgettable performance and continued success! 🎶
