We celebrate Juneteenth — a day that commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Juneteenth is a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward freedom, equality, and opportunity for all. It honors the resilience, strength, and contributions of African Americans throughout history and calls us to continue building communities rooted in justice, compassion, and hope.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, we recognize the importance of extending dignity, opportunity, and support to those seeking a new beginning.

May this day inspire us to reflect on our shared history, celebrate progress, and recommit ourselves to serving others with love and purpose.

Happy Juneteenth!

A heartfelt thank you to Detroit City Angela Whitfield Calloway for taking the time to speak with the clients and staff of Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries at the Return, Revive & Thrive: Career Day for Returning Citizens held today at the Northwest Activity Center.

The event was filled with powerful stories of resilience, hope, and second chances.

One of our clients shared that she was so inspired by the speakers and the personal testimonies of individuals who had overcome incarceration and homelessness that she left believing, “I can do it too.”

Thank you to The Elliottorian Business and Professional Women, Inc. for organizing such a meaningful event and creating a space where encouragement, opportunity, and transformation could thrive.

A huge THANK YOU to Old National Bank for its generous $15,000 gift to support DRMM’s Safe Homes Strong Futures program!

This investment will help neighbors in need make critical home improvements so they can remain safely in their homes while also building valuable home repair and maintenance skills.

We were honored to welcome Rick Hampson, Jamie Guise, and Ryan Hunter from the Old National Bank team as they presented this meaningful gift and learned more about the impact of the program.

Special thanks to our Director of Development, Linda Stingl, for cultivating this partnership and coordinating the visit.

We are grateful for community partners who believe in our mission and help create stronger homes and brighter futures for Detroit families.

DRMM was proud to support Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network’s Walk for Mental Health at O’Hair Park, bringing the community together for a day focused on wellness, connection, and resources.

Attendees enjoyed music from the DJ, great food, family-friendly activities, and access to valuable mental health resources. Our team distributed socks, hygiene kits, clear makeup bags with PPE masks, coloring books, and boxes of Narcan to help support community members.

A special thank you to the dedicated staff of our Christian Guidance Center Treatment program for representing DRMM and serving our community with compassion and care.

Shout out to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison and DWIHN CEO James E. White for their leadership and commitment to advancing mental health awareness and resources throughout our community.

Together, we continue to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote mental wellness for all. 💚🧠
