Dickinson Public Schools was honored to welcome Secretary Linda McMahon and Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Kirsten Baesler this week.

DPS was the K-12 school district selected for a visit during their time in North Dakota, with Assistant Secretary Baesler recognizing DPS for its exemplary work in education.

Lt. Governor Michelle Strinden and other state leaders and representatives also joined the visit. Guests toured the Southwest Area CTE Academy (SWCTE), where Secretary McMahon dined with students and enjoyed a meal prepared and served by our Culinary II students.

During a roundtable with students, local and state officials, and business partners, guests learned about the history of SWCTE, the partnerships that helped bring it to life, the continued growth of its programs, and the impact it is having on students throughout Southwest North Dakota.

Today, Secretary McMahon continued the conversation during an education roundtable with DPS educators. Teachers and staff shared the joys and challenges of their work, along with ideas they believe the federal government should consider when shaping education funding and policy.

We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our students, educators, programs, and community partnerships while bringing the voices of those closest to the classroom into conversations about the future of education.

Thank you to Secretary McMahon, Assistant Secretary Baesler, Lieutenant Governor Strinden, and all who joined us for taking the time to listen, learn, and engage with us.

We are honored to recognize Jennifer Nokes of Roosevelt Elementary, who has been selected as one of four semi-finalists for the 2027 North Dakota Teacher of the Year!

Being selected among educators from across North Dakota is an outstanding accomplishment and a meaningful recognition of Nokesโ€™s commitment to her students and to excellence in education.

Nokes will be recognized with a special school visit from State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier in September before joining her fellow semi-finalists for the statewide Teacher of the Year celebration later in the month.

Congratulations, Jennifer, on this distinguished recognition. We are proud to celebrate this achievement with you!

What a way to start the 2026โ€“2027 school year, DPS! ๐ŸšŒ๐ŸŽ

Our schools were full of energy today as students reunited with friends, met their teachers, settled into new classrooms, and started another year of learning together.

There were plenty of smiles, a few first-day nerves, lots of excitement, and so many great moments happening across the district.

Thank you to our staff and families for everything that went into making today a great first day for our students.

Weโ€™re officially underway, DPS. Hereโ€™s to a great year ahead! ๐Ÿงก
