When it comes to homelessness, Delaware needs to lead with compassion— but also with evidence-based strategies.

Policing homelessness does not solve it.
Housing does.

I am voting yes on the Dr. DeBorah Gilbert White Act (HB 135) because we must invest in more low-barrier shelter beds, more permanent supportive housing, and more affordable housing. No person in our state should be forced to live outside due to lack of investment in homelessness resources or affordable housing.

It’s important to support the many small businesses that make our state amazing, and last week I had the pleasure to visit a nonprofit doing this work.

Despite its name, the Wilmington Kitchen Collective is a nonprofit that provides access to high-quality commercial kitchen space for 39 active small businesses owned by local entrepreneurs across New Castle County (including the 26th district!)

With four shared kitchens, this organization partners with entrepreneurs and the State of Delaware to help them build and expand their businesses. From support with business and licensure fees to access to training, business development, and marketing, the Wilmington Kitchen Collective offers the tools culinary entrepreneurs need to succeed.

It was great connecting with Lisa and her team and learning more about the work being done to support and grow Delaware’s small business community.

The DE Division of Small Business supports small business owners throughout every stage by guiding them through state processes and linking them with resource partners tailored to their specific needs. Thank you to the Muslim Student Association at CSW for inviting me to speak to them during their activity period. It’s always a pleasure to speak with young people about public service and their goals and aspirations.

Afterwards, I was able to drop in on some of my teachers who are still inspiring the next generation of leaders at CSW. Welcome to the CSW Family, Mr. Bartnik. Thanks for the tour of my old stomping grounds! So many great memories with amazing educators 🥰 Go Force!

The data center project can’t move forward in its current form - and that’s GREAT news for Delawareans.

ICYMI: A decision from DNREC was unanimously upheld by the Delaware Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board, confirming that Project Washington is not permitted under our Coastal Zone Act.

We have plenty of examples of how large data centers, like the one proposed in Delaware City, can put serious strain on our water resources, drive up energy costs, and create pollution for nearby communities.

Thank you to DNREC for standing firm and upholding our laws and to all of those who took time out of their busy schedules to oppose the project.

A Delaware board upheld a decision that the Project Washington data center is not allowed under the Coastal Zone Act.

I was honored to attend the Grand Opening of The Faith Deanna Johnson Foundation Ovarian Cancer Awareness Center. I was blessed with Faith’s friendship and support, which made this ribbon cutting extra special.

Her incredible parents, Dwain and Karen Johnson, created this foundation in her honor to fight back against ovarian cancer and since its founding in 2023, they’ve been winning.

Words are not enough to describe how happy I am for this family, and how excited I am for the future of this foundation. Prevention is key to beating this disease, and together, we can fight back against ovarian cancer.

I was glad to join my colleagues in hosting students from across the state for Women and Girls Student Job Shadow Day in the House.

While no two days in the legislature are ever the same, it was great to give students a look at how we serve our communities and the many roles that make this work possible. They observed committee meetings, connected with representatives, and even joined us on the floor - a full day at Legislative Hall!

Yesterday the House passed HB 63 - legislation aimed at strengthening state laws and regulations around fireworks use and sale.

The widespread, illegal use of fireworks in Delaware has been an issue for some time now. I was first alerted to the issue by members of my community, and after reaching out to the State Fire Marshal, I learned that the issue is due to a lack of public awareness of state law on fireworks and misleading advertisements from out-of-state retailers.

Our current fireworks law is confusing. And the fact that there are billboards in our state advertising illegal fireworks adds to that confusion. HB 63 is a direct response to this issue, and bolsters the Office of the State Fire Marshall’s ability to regulate firework usage and keep Delawareans safe.
