As part of the ongoing efforts to modernize the laws governing Delaware’s financial sector and attract businesses to the First State, we advanced my legislation from the Senate Government Affairs Committee yesterday which updates the Delaware Technical Innovation Program.

“Here in Delaware, we have examples of countless success stories from entrepreneurs and small business owners who were able to launch their company because they had access to capital and other resources to support their emerging enterprise,” said Sen. Brown. “Through the work of Opportunity LIVES Here to modernize Delaware’s fintech, biosciences, and AI industries, we’re continuing to prove that Delaware is the premier destination to do business.”

Senate Bill 315 authorizes the Delaware Division of Small Business to provide matching funds or supplemental grant funds to eligible Delaware small businesses receiving federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) awards in order to support research, development, commercialization, and economic benefit across Delaware.

City Delegation Remembers Mayor Mike Purzycki:

“Fewer people have had a more profound and enduring impact on the City of Wilmington than Mike Purzycki.

Long before his tenure as mayor, Mike had a vision for our city that few could see. Under his leadership at the Riverfront Development Corporation, the long-forgotten marshes along the Christina River were transformed into a vibrant hotspot that has since attracted businesses, young professionals, and athletic teams who now call our riverfront “home.”

Everyone who worked with Mike understood that he wouldn’t shy away from the toughest challenges facing the city, but that he would work to build consensus and partner with anyone who was interested in solving problems.

Mayor Purzycki’s legacy is undeniable and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Bette and his family during this time.”

Whenever there is a federal government shutdown, nearly 4,000 of Delaware’s federal workers can be impacted by the financial strains that come with furlough and delayed payments. That is why I introduced Senate Bill 268, as it provides impacted federal workers with support like interest free loans for financial assistance and free public transit. This bill passed the Senate unanimously.

No Delawarean should have to bear the brunt of ineptitude in Washington.

As a county and as a community, it’s important we share and reflect on our personal and collective contributions to neighborhoods. There are many different agencies, roles, and chambers that work collaboratively to ensure we are moving Delaware forward and doing what is best for all New Castle County residents.

The New Castle County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner gives us the chance to meet with local leaders, representatives, and organizations to recognize the impact we’re making in our state, and the positive changes we’re creating together.

The fatal crashes on our roads this past week are a heartbreaking reminder of how vital practicing road safety is for all Delawareans. I mourn the lives lost during these tragic accidents and stand with the affected families during this hard time.
Seatbelts save lives, and we must continue to emphasize safe driving habits, especially to our young and new drivers. This small action can make all the difference in keeping everyone safe on the roads.
