This morning, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of a Massachusetts State Police Trooper who was struck and killed while responding to a wrong-way driver. A hero answered the call to protect others and did not make it home.

Every day, first responders leave their families not knowing what the shift may bring. Behind every uniform is a parent, spouse, child, sibling, and friend someone whose loved ones simply hope they return home safely. Today is a heartbreaking reminder of the sacrifices made by those who dedicate their lives to protecting complete strangers.

We also want to recognize and thank the countless first responders, dispatchers, firefighters, EMS personnel, nurses, doctors, and medical staff who responded to this incident and worked tirelessly in an effort to save this Trooper’s life.

To our brothers and sisters of the Massachusetts State Police, and to the Trooper’s family and loved ones, please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Trooper. We’ll take it from here.

The Dover Police Department will be participating in the statewide Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign throughout the month of May.

Officers will be conducting high-visibility enforcement along roadways including Centre Street, Hartford Street, and Route 109, focusing on seatbelt compliance.

Seatbelts remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury and death in a crash. Our goal is to increase compliance and keep our community safe through education and enforcement.

Drivers and passengers are reminded:

* Buckle up on every trip
* Ensure all passengers are properly restrained
* Follow all traffic safety laws

Enforcement will take place at various times throughout the day and evening.
