After its unanimous vote in the House and Senate, Senate Bill 260 will officially be signed into law. This legislation was created for the sole purpose of showing support and recognition to our art students – giving them the encouragement they need to grow within their passions and follow career paths in the arts.

In the Delaware Art Museum, joined by advocates and members of the local art communities, we will witness the signing of SB 260 and celebrate this achievement. The museum is currently hosting a new exhibit, “Citizen’s Artist,’ which highlights local art that has been transformative to Delaware’s history and culture. This is the perfect backdrop to highlight the importance of this legislation, and I look forward to seeing you there. For the past 14 years, Rep. Debra Heffernan has been co-chairing the Kids Caucus in Legislative Hall, advocating for children across our state, and bringing positive change to our communities. Last week’s meeting was a bittersweet moment as she attended her final meeting as co-chair and relinquished the role to Rep. Krista Griffith.

It was only two months ago when Sen. Elizabeth "Tizzy" Lockman passed the torch to me as her successor in this caucus, and now we get to welcome Rep. Krista Griffith into our fold. I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together, and look forward to being co-chairs of this caucus moving forward.

Thank you to Nemours Children’s Health for hosting the 5th Annual Nemours Children’s Health Research Week.I was honored to share remarks and spend time with the physicians, medical students, researchers, social workers, and so many others dedicating their work to improving the health and well-being of children here in Delaware and across our country.

Nemours is a thoughtful and dedicated partner not only to Senate District 1, but to our state as a whole, bringing together care, research, and innovation to support children and families in every corner of Delaware.Their commitment to seeing every child as a whole person and advancing pediatric care through research continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many of our neighbors.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor & remember the brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. One way we can honor their legacy is by rolling up our sleeves, working alongside our neighbors & helping those in need in our communities.

It was terrific to spend time this week with our Highlands neighbors at their civic association meeting alongside Rep. Krista Griffith & fellow City of Wilmington elected officials, listening to feedback & sharing conversations about our community.

I’m incredibly grateful for the friendship, partnership & engagement we continue to share with neighbors who truly understand the importance of supporting our cultural institutions, family festivals, schools, & one another.
