Here is some great information about Right-of-Ways from Liberty Township!

Today we’re starting a new online series: Township 101. We’ll take a question or topic that Township Hall gets all the time and try to explain it simply.

First up: what is the “right of way”? This topic is behind most of the questions we get about front yards, mailboxes, and utility crews. It’s the strip of land along the street, typically in what looks like your front yard, that holds the road, curb, ditch, sidewalk, and often utility lines. It usually runs 10 or more feet past the edge of the road. For most homes with a sidewalk, the first stretch of what looks like your front yard is actually the right of way, including the ground around your mailbox.

You mow it and take care of it. But the Township and various public utilities have the right to work in it for plowing, drainage, water and gas lines, electric, cable, fiber, and more. That’s why crews sometimes show up in front of your house without knocking first. One thing to know before you put anything there: fences, basketball hoops, electric dog fences, irrigation lines, and landscaping in the right of way can be removed if the Township or a utility needs to get in. On streets without curbs or sidewalks, a ditch in the right of way carries stormwater for the whole street, so rocks, pipes, and landscaping in a ditch can be removed if the Township or a utility has to fix a drainage problem. And just so we’re clear, the right of way is different from a utility easement. Utility easements are typically found along the side or rear of your property.

⚡ Your Electric Bill Is Getting a New Look ⚡

Effective October 1st, residents who receive electric service from AEP Ohio may soon notice a new name and a new look on their electric bills.

Customers will begin seeing Ohio Power Company reflected on their bills along with an updated bill design. The new format more clearly separates electric generation charges from charges for the electric grid that delivers electricity to your home.

**Please note: Perry Township is sharing this information as a courtesy to help residents recognize the upcoming change. The Township is not involved in this change and does not have additional information regarding the reason for the rebranding, billing changes or individual electric accounts. Questions should be directed to AEP/Ohio Power Company using the customer service information provided on your bill.**

Yesterday, our road crew participated in the Franklin County Engineer's Office annual 'Snow Fighters Roadeo.' Our drivers joined other plow drivers from around Central Ohio to run through the obstacle course and test their skills. We attend the 'roadeo' as a refresher for our drivers and as part of our preparation for the upcoming winter season. The training includes classroom instruction, skills testing, and an obstacle course within a closed area marked with cones. It's a good opportunity for our drivers to brush up on their skills, get some hands-on practice, and prepare for the challenges of winter snow and ice operations. ❄❄❄
