30 YEARS OF SERVICE — CONGRATULATIONS, DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF MARK ZIPETO!

On August 28, 1996, the Macarena was at the top of the charts, Independence Day and Twister were filling movie theaters, dial-up internet was still considered cutting-edge technology… and Mark Zipeto began his career with Dunedin Fire Rescue.

Today, exactly 30 years later, we are proud to recognize Deputy Fire Chief Mark Zipeto for three decades of dedicated service to the City of Dunedin and our community.

Throughout his career, Chief Zipeto has held every rank within Dunedin Fire Rescue, working his way through the organization to his current position as Deputy Fire Chief of EMS Operations. Along the way, he has helped shape our department and has been part of some of the most significant challenges and advancements in our history.

Chief Zipeto has deployed on wildland strike teams responding throughout the State of Florida, served during numerous hurricanes and major emergencies, and led our EMS operations through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since taking leadership of the EMS Division in 2017, his impact has been substantial. He helped establish a comprehensive mental health and peer-support program for our firefighters, recognizing the importance of taking care of those who spend their careers taking care of others.

He also developed our Paramedic Field Training Program, empowering experienced field paramedics to provide quality assurance, continuing education, mentorship, and on-scene EMS supervision for their respective shifts.

Chief Zipeto has also been instrumental in demonstrating the need for enhanced EMS resources in Dunedin, including advocating for the County-funded ALS Rescue at Fire Station 60, which has significantly strengthened emergency medical services for our community.

Thirty years in the fire service represents thousands of emergency calls, countless nights away from family, hurricanes, deployments, difficult incidents, lives impacted, firefighters mentored, and a career devoted to serving others.

Chief Zipeto’s experience and institutional knowledge are invaluable to Dunedin Fire Rescue, and his leadership has helped make our department what it is today.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Fire Chief Mark Zipeto on 30 years of dedicated service to the City of Dunedin.

Chief, thank you for your leadership, your friendship, your commitment to our firefighters, and most importantly, your three decades of service to the citizens of Dunedin.

Congratulations on 30 years, Chief Zipeto! Here’s to the next chapter! 🚒🔥

🍩 **A Sweet Surprise at Station 61!** 🚒

A huge thank you to our friends at **Sunbun Donut Co.** for stopping by Fire Station 61 and dropping off a box of delicious treats for the crew!

It was an unexpected surprise and definitely a highlight of their weekend. We are incredibly grateful for the kindness and support our local businesses continue to show Dunedin Fire Rescue.

We love supporting the businesses that make Dunedin such a special community, and we always want to see our local businesses thrive and succeed.

Thank you, Sunbun Donut Co., for thinking of our firefighters—and for keeping Station 61 very well supplied with donuts! 🍩❤️🔥

💦🎶 **Two years in a row—and if we do it a third time, it officially becomes a tradition!**

Dunedin Fire Rescue once again had the pleasure of helping the Dunedin High School Band students cool down during their final day of band camp.

At the request of the DHS Band Boosters, our crew stopped by the practice field and gave the students a well-earned spray down after a long, hot week of hard work. Based on the smiles—and the amount of water flying through the air—we think it was a hit!

We had a great time and are always proud to support our Dunedin High School students. Congratulations on completing band camp, and have a great school year! 🚒💦🎺🥁

🦆🚒 **Just another night on A Shift…**

While most of Dunedin was asleep, last night Engine 60 - A Shift was dispatched to a very serious situation: ducklings in distress.

The crew quickly located the tiny patients, performed a successful rescue and reunited the family—no hose line, ladder or incident command board required.

The ducklings were safely cleared from the scene and refused transport. Their mother declined to comment but appeared satisfied with the service.

Great job, E60 A Shift, proving once again that no rescue is too big—or too small—for Dunedin Fire Rescue! 🐥

Today, Dunedin Fire Rescue is celebrating our favorite four-legged crew member. Russet may not be certified to drive the engine, pull hose or write reports, but he is highly trained in boosting morale, inspecting snacks and responding rapidly to the sound of a treat bag opening.
We hope your birthday is filled with belly rubs, extra treats and absolutely no overtime!
Happy 3rd Birthday, Russet! 🐶🚒❤️

Behind every emergency response is countless hours of training.

At Dunedin Fire Rescue, our crews are constantly sharpening their skills so they’re ready when our community needs them most. This video highlights recent training where our firefighters practiced ventilating a commercial flat roof—a critical skill that can improve fire conditions, increase visibility, and enhance safety for both occupants and firefighters during a commercial structure fire.

We train over and over again because there are no “practice” emergencies. Every evolution, every repetition, and every lesson learned is an investment in being better prepared to protect lives and property.

The public may only see us on someone’s worst day, but what they don’t see are the hours of dedication, teamwork, and hard work that happen long before the alarm sounds. We hope the skills we train for are rarely needed, but if that day comes, we’ll be ready.

🚒 Train hard. Serve with excellence. Protect our community.
