Baugo Fire proudly participated in the Elkhart and Osceola Memorial Day parades. In keeping with recent tradition, Ladder 191 carried the flag of the 713th Combat Engineer SAPPER Company (Valparaiso, IN). Which 2 members of our dept currently still serve with.

We honor the memory of the “Sapper 6” — six brave soldiers who gave their lives in 2012 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan:

SSG Jonathan Metzger
SGT Brian Leonhardt
SPC Christopher Patterson
SPC Nicholas Taylor
SPC Robert Tauteris Jr.
SPC Sergio Perez

We continue to hold the promise that we will never forget.

Over the past two weeks, Baugo Fire Department was able to send a member to attend the Hazardous Materials Technician course hosted by Goshen Fire Department. As a result, each shift now has at least one member certified as either a HazMat Technician or HazMat Specialist.

While we may not have all the specialized equipment readily available to fully mitigate a hazardous materials incident, having a certified Technician on scene allows for proper reconnaissance, hazard identification, and coordination of additional resources. This capability improves scene management, supports faster decision-making, and helps ensure that the right resources are deployed efficiently when they are needed most.

All Baugo Fire personnel are trained to the Hazardous Materials Operations level. This role focuses primarily on defensive operations, such as isolating the area and protecting exposures, while Technicians take on tasks like stopping leaks, repairing containers, and managing more complex aspects of the incident.

If you have ordered a PTSD or Mental Health Awareness shirt, please note that orders have arrived and are now available for pickup. You may stop by the station to collect your shirt from Firefighter Bailey Stankiewicz or Lieutenant Joe Frye.

If you have not yet submitted payment, please be prepared to do so at the time of pickup. Shirts will only be released once payment has been received in full.

B-Shift Responds to Another Fire in Cleveland Township

As part of a multi-agency response, B-Shift was dispatched to assist Cleveland Township on a residential structure fire. Due to the complexity of the situation, crews were required to stage until law enforcement confirmed the scene was safe for firefighters to begin operations.

Crews remained committed on the incident for nearly four hours. During that time, Madison Township was requested to standby at our station to ensure continued coverage, as regular 911 calls were still being received.

Madison Township was able to return to their area once off-duty full-time personnel arrived to assume coverage.

B-Shift Responds to House Fire in Concord Township

Baugo’s B-Shift was dispatched this afternoon to assist with a reported house fire in Concord Township. Ladder 191 and its crew assisted with fire suppression and overhaul operations on scene.

Mutual aid responses like this play a critical role in ensuring adequate staffing for safe and effective fireground operations. As we move into the warmer months, having sufficient personnel allows crews to rotate through work/rest cycles, helping maintain firefighter safety and operational efficiency.

We want to thank our community for their continued support, whether through bottled water donations or sweet treats. We truly appreciate it.

Baugo Fire responds to a 3 alarm fire in Concord Township.

At approximately 4:30 PM this afternoon, Baugo Fire was requested to assist with a structure fire in Concord Township. Ladder 191 arrived on scene and utilized its crew to gain entry and attempt to confine the fire. Due to the building’s construction and advanced fire conditions, crews were forced to evacuate and transition to defensive operations.

Ladder 191 was repositioned for master stream operations, successfully knocking down the fire and protecting a neighboring business from extension. The incident was escalated to a second alarm, prompting an off-duty crew to staff Engine 141.

Engine 141 was assigned to lay supply lines to both ladder trucks, establish a water supply through drafting operations, and supply Ladder 191. Once water supply operations were secured, Engine 141’s crew assisted with advancing handlines and re-entry efforts.

Shorty after clearing, Baugo units were dispatched to a fire alarm on the north side. Both available crews responded. With both Baugo suppression units committed, Madison Township Fire Department was requested to provide station coverage for Baugo and Concord Township. Thank you MTFD.

This highlights our department’s commitment to serve. On duty or off duty, our crews are willing to go to work and accomplish the task.
