Erie County celebrated National Recovery Month recently with a community celebration organized by the ECDA Regional Recovery Hub. The event was held at the Booker T. Washington Center.

County Executive Christina Vogel read a proclamation declaring September as Recovery Month in Erie County, recognizing the strength of those in recovery and the importance of community support.

The event featured recovery resources from more than 30 agencies, guest speakers, awards, food and music.

Thank you to the Certified Recovery Specialists, individuals in recovery, volunteers and community partners who helped make the celebration a success. Recovery is real, and our community is here to support it.

A new sculpture in front of the Erie Insurance Arena is bringing creativity and a fresh visual addition to the heart of our community.

The Hidden Creeks sculpture tells the story of the devastating 1915 Mill Creek Flood and the underground tube built afterward to help protect Erie. It also highlights the connection between our community, its history and the waterways beneath our streets.

The project is led by the Erie County Conservation District, with artwork created by Erie’s Looking Glass Art Project.

Thank you to the artists, project partners and sponsors helping bring public art and local history to life in !

The AEM Manufacturing Express made a special stop in Erie, hosted by Kyle Strayer and the Erie Strayer Company.

Founded in 1912, Erie Strayer is a fourth-generation, family-owned industry leader in the design and manufacturing of concrete batch plants. With nearly 100 local employees, the company continues to make a significant contribution to Erie County and our regional supply chain.

Thank you to Kyle Strayer and the entire Strayer family for their continued commitment to our community, and for the opportunity to tour the facility and meet your dedicated team.

Manufacturing remains an important part of Pennsylvania’s economy, creating jobs and driving growth in communities across the Commonwealth.

Congratulations to Erie County Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Jack Grotkowski! Erie County Executive Christina Vogel recently presented Jack with a Certificate of Commendation on behalf of Erie County residents.

On September 5, 2026, Jack qualified for the County’s Life Saver Award after providing CPR instructions for nearly six minutes to a caller whose father was not breathing. Erie Fire and Emergycare confirmed the patient was in cardiac arrest, and after about ten minutes on scene, the patient regained pulses. The patient is now recovering well.

Jack also celebrated his 10-year service anniversary this year as a Erie County employee. He is fully cross‑trained, a Certified Training Officer, and serves as the AFSCME Union Steward for Public Safety.
