Erie County has completed its Logic and Accuracy testing of the electronic voting systems for the November 3, 2026 General Election. While there are many tasks associated with L&A testing, a major component involves testing the ballots in each piece of voting equipment for all 149 precincts as well as the central scanning location at the Erie County Courthouse.

To conduct this testing, the staff from the Elections Department uses a “test deck” which is a set of ballots with predetermined outcomes that contain votes for all races and write ins, as well as improperly marked ballots designed to alert the system of an issue such as no candidates selected for a race (undervotes), too many candidates selected (overvotes), ambiguous marks, and incorrect ballots. Election Day ballots, mail ballots/absentee ballots, and provisional ballots are all tested. The results we get at the end of the testing period are expected to match the predetermined outcomes for the test.

During testing, the ballots are fed into the scanner from multiple directions: forwards, backwards, and upside down (four directions) to confirm that the votes can be read correctly regardless of how they were fed into the machine.

In addition to testing the ballots, the software and firmware on the machines are confirmed to be the certified versions, the battery backups are fully charged and verified, the dates and times are checked, and all systems and machinery are verified to be properly calibrated.

ATTENTION ERIE COUNTY RESIDENTS:
There are no planned data centers in Erie County at this time.
The proposed SALDO amendments simply set basic standards for data centers in municipalities that do not already have their own regulations. Many municipalities in the county already have rules in place.

There will be a public hearing before County Council on the proposed amendments to the Erie County Municipalities Planning Code – Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., Erie County Courthouse, 140 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16501. Amendments to the Erie County Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance will pertain to the planning, development, construction, operation, containment and decommissioning of data center facilities, as well as data center accessory uses. The public is invited to inquire and to comment on the proposed amendments.

Monday was the 27th Annual PRM Golf Tournament for Pleasant Ridge Manor Friends Forever. ⛳🏌️‍♀️

Funds raised through the tournament will support projects and activities for the residents of Pleasant Ridge Manor.

🗽 The Erie County Departments of Elections and Voter Registration are celebrating National Poll Worker Recruitment Day today, August 11. This nationwide effort encourages citizens to sign up as poll workers.

🗳️ With the midterm elections about three months away, the departments are encouraging eligible Americans to assist with in-person voting.

📋 Signing up to be a poll worker gives citizens an opportunity not only to see how elections are run, but to join your friends, neighbors, and coworkers to serve your community.

👋 Duties include setting up polling places and greeting voters, verifying voter registrations, and issuing ballots. They can help explain how the voting process works by demonstrating how voting machines are used and detailing voting procedures. Training is provided!

🏦 National Poll Worker Recruitment Day was established by the EAC in 2020 to highlight the vital role of election workers and encourage more Americans to serve their local communities.

🇺🇸 Since it started, this day has grown into a nationwide effort to raise awareness of the need for poll workers.

Pennsylvania Secretary of the Commonwealth Al Schmidt visited Erie to recognize the Benedictine Sisters of Erie for their commitment to democracy and their response to false voter fraud claims during the 2024 election.

When faced with misinformation, the Sisters encouraged others to seek the truth, stay informed, and remain engaged in our democracy. Secretary Schmidt also honored Sisters Marcia Sigler and Rosanne Loneck for their decades of civic participation and induction into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame. 🗳️🇺🇸
