Housing Authority of the City of Erie The purpose of our page is to advertise our available housing and to advertise the programs and the services offered by HACE.

Originally established by City Council in 1938 to address the housing needs of low-income families, the Housing Authority of the City of Erie has had a long and distinguished history. The Authority is organized under the provisions of the Pennsylvania Housing Authorities Act of 1937, as an independent public, non-profit corporation to “provide dwelling accommodations for persons of low income.”


The Authority has a five-member, unpaid governing Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of the City of Erie for a five-year term. Each member serves at the pleasure of the Mayor and can be re-appointed. Commissioners make policy decisions on current and future programs, determine how those programs are to be administered,and obtain and protect monies needed to keep the programs operating. On an annual basis, the Authority provides housing assistance to more than 3,000 Erie households. The Authority serves more than 7 percent of the city’s population, providing affordable housing, education, jobs, and recreational activities.

Registration is now open for HOPE ASPIRES, an after-school program for HACE youth in grades 3–5.

Each Wednesday, students will enjoy a safe and supportive environment with:
🚌 Transportation provided by EMTA
📚 Homework assistance
🍎 Snack and dinner
🎨 Fun and enriching activities
🤝 Mentoring from HACE C.O.P.P.S. community police officers

📅 Program begins October 7
⏰ Wednesdays, 2:30–6:30 p.m.

Important Medicaid Update for HACE Residents

Beginning January 1, 2027, changes in federal law will affect some adults who receive Medicaid. These changes may include:

• Renewing Medicaid coverage every six months instead of once a year
• New requirements for some adults to participate in work, school, job training, volunteering, or other community activities

If you or someone in your household receives Medicaid, we encourage you to stay informed and watch for important notices about your coverage.

Back-to-school season is almost here. As students across Erie head back to class, school buses will once again be making frequent stops throughout our neighborhoods.

The Housing Authority of the City of Erie reminds all drivers to help keep our children safe:

🚌 Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and be alert for children.

🛑 Red flashing lights and an extended stop arm mean STOP. Drivers must stop at least 10 feet away from the bus.

🚸 Stay stopped until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and children are safely out of the roadway.

A few extra seconds of patience can make a big difference. Please slow down, stay alert, and help keep Erie’s students safe this school year.

Important Medicaid Update for HACE Residents

We want Housing Authority of the City of Erie residents to be aware of upcoming changes to Medicaid, also known as Medical Assistance in Pennsylvania.

Beginning January 1, 2027, changes in federal law will affect some adults who receive Medicaid. These changes may include:
