Irais Ibarra Kay, with Mexican roots, is a marketing professional and emerging community leader whose work strengthens opportunities for families across Evansville. A 2023 University of Evansville graduate, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in Global Business, Marketing, and Logistics and Supply Chain Management. As Marketing Coordinator for the Evansville Promise Neighborhood, Irais uses communication to connect residents with education, resources, and community support. Her previous leadership as CEO of UE’s student-run Embrace Marketing Agency deepened her passion for serving nonprofit organizations. Her vision, professionalism, and commitment make her a deserving recipient of the 2026 Orgullo Hispano Medal.

Originally from Ecuador and a graduate of Universidad Internacional del Ecuador, Emilio Xavier Gonzalez is the owner of The Pits Auto Repair and a humble servant leader in Evansville. Known for his kindness, honesty, fair pricing, and service, Emilio answers calls at any hour to assist Latino families facing vehicle emergencies. He goes above and beyond, providing mobile and after-hours safety checks to ensure customers can travel safely. Beyond his business, Emilio anonymously supports causes that advance the Latino community through sports and education. His generosity, compassion, and commitment make him a deserving recipient of the 2026 Orgullo Hispano Medal.

Originally from Nicaragua, Gina Videa has strengthened the Evansville community through her dedication to education, faith, service, and entrepreneurship. Through her work in admissions at the University of Southern Indiana, she has guided students as they pursue meaningful professional goals. Her involvement in Spanish-language Cursillo has also helped create opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship. As an accomplished business leader, Gina shares the vibrant flavors of Latin America through the celebrated restaurant Sazón y Fuego. Her leadership, generosity, and commitment to others make her a deserving recipient of the 2026 Orgullo Hispano Medal and an inspiring community role model.

Paola Marizán is a Dominican journalist, bilingual producer, and communications leader whose work has transformed Latino representation in Evansville and beyond. A University of Southern Indiana journalism graduate, she helped create WNIN’s bilingual program and podcast, ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest?, providing Spanish-speaking families with trusted news and community stories. Through her leadership with America Amplified and her contributions to national media, Paola has championed inclusive journalism, expanded access to information, and elevated diverse voices across the country. Her creativity, courage, and commitment to authentic storytelling make her a recipient of the 2026 Orgullo Hispano Medal and an inspiration to future generations.

Claudia Peña is a respected bilingual professional originally from Colombia, whose dedication, perseverance, and cultural pride have enriched the Evansville community. A graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and a professional with Archer Daniels Midland Company, Claudia represents the determination and excellence of Hispanic leaders throughout the Tri-State. Through her work and personal example, she builds bridges between cultures, inspires others to pursue their goals, and demonstrates the importance of education, service, and integrity. Her warmth, leadership, and commitment to uplifting those around her make Claudia a worthy recipient of the 2026 Orgullo Hispano Medal and a source of pride for our community today.

Jorge and Bertha Melendres, originally from Mexico, exemplify faith, perseverance, and service. Jorge serves as a permanent deacon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and brings hospitality to the community through The Diner by Mele’s. Bertha directs Hispanic Ministry for the Diocese of Evansville, supporting Latino families and developing parish leadership. She earned her Master of Arts in Theology from Saint Meinrad. Together, they reflect the strength of family, cultural pride, and dedication to others. As Orgullo Hispano 2026 Medal recipients, they are honored for their contributions to community life and for embodying the spirit of Latino leadership, compassion, and unity.
