We have a new sign displayed on the front of our station. This sign shows the current fire conditions in our immediate area. We will be as diligent as possible in keeping this sign updated as needed. As always use caution when burning regardless of the sign status.

The burn ban sign near the roadway will remain in place and used in coordination with the county and burn ban notices.

We appreciate everything our dispatch center does for our county. Often, they are overlooked, not seen, and undervalued in the public eye. The agencies that are represented daily in the public eye, all have one thing in common, they rely on and operate through dispatch at every incident. They are the first ones to respond before you ever see an agency show up, and continue to assist through the entirety of every incident until the last person clears. Thank a telecommunicator if you get the chance.

Please be aware of upcoming weather as it continues to develop:

Lingering flooding today (Thu): Minor to localized flooding continues in parts of the
Ozarks following mid-week heavy rain. Conditions gradually improve today, but some
low-water impacts persist into early afternoon.
• Low, conditional storm risk today: Isolated thunderstorms may develop late this morning
into early afternoon, mainly south-central Missouri. If storms form, isolated hail or wind
damage is possible, but coverage is expected to be limited.
• Primary concern – Friday into early Saturday: A significant severe weather event is
expected Friday afternoon through overnight into early Saturday. An Enhanced Risk (Level 3
of 5) is in place, with widespread damaging winds (70–80+ mph) the main threat. A
fast-moving squall line is likely, with potential for rapid, large-scale impacts (power outages
and structural damage).

Be aware of this prescribed burn as smoke will likely affect our district.

Weather conditions permitting, Pea Ridge National Military Park will conduct prescribed fire operations Thursday through Saturday, March 19 to 21. To assure visitor safety, some areas inside the park, including roads and trails, may be closed while fire operations are taking place and for a short period after completion.

Up to 960 acres of fields and forest will be burned to maintain and restore the historic landscape of the battlefield area and reduce available fire fuels.

Though fire managers make every effort to minimize smoke impacts to surrounding communities, smoke-sensitive individuals may want to avoid outside activities on the day(s) of the operation.

For additional information on whether prescribed fire operations will occur on any given day, please call the park’s Visitor Center at (479) 451-8122.
