Another school year is here, and I’m thinking especially of everyone at Ladd Elementary and Tanana Middle Schools.

Thanks to Fairbanks Area Surface Transportation Planning (FAST Planning and many volunteers, Trainor Gate Road now has painted lanes, stop bars, candlesticks, a 20‑mph speed limit through the whole corridor, and double‑fine school‑zone signs.

It’s a wide road that tempts fast driving, but hundreds of kids walk just yards away. Please slow down, watch for kiddos, and remember: phones down.

We are starting August off right with a series of meetings this week!

➡️ Wednesday, August 5th from 12 - 2 PM, our Technical Committee will meet to discuss agenda items like our Unified Planning Work Program and the Transportation Improvement Program (both planning documents that we're required to keep current!)

➡️ Thursday, August 6th from 11 AM - 1 PM, the Project Enhancement Committee will get up to speed on some beautification projects that will close out the summer season, and more!

➡️ Thursday, August 6th from 5 - 7 PM, the Walk, Ride & Roll Advisory Committee (WRRAC) has a lot to catch up on after a 3-month hiatus from the regular meeting space. Notably, we'll be providing an update on the efforts at Trainor Gate & F Street and start thumbing through Alaska Administrative Code/Alaska Statute on e-bikes and The E-moto Question.

Our long-range planning process is moving right along! The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) Steering Committee meets tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29th from 10 AM - 12 PM! Then, Thursday, July 30th from 10 - 11:30 AM, the Technical Committee will gather to check out the Draft MTP Project List. Today officially marks the closure of our 30-Day Public Comment Period for both our Draft Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and our Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Amendment #3. These are both required plans for our organization and offer a lot of insight to our day-to-day, month-to-month, and year-to-year goals and operations! While the public comment period officially closes today, we will accept comments through the weekend! To view or comment (using a comment form) on either of these documents, you can go to their respective web pages!

Tomorrow, Saturday July 11th - it’s all happening! We will be hosting Asphalt Art Painting at the one and only Trainor Gate & F Street! Swing by anytime between 11 AM & 6 PM* to help us bring a ✨huge✨project effort to life!

FAST Planning will provide:
• 📋 media release forms
• 🧃cold drinks (water, gatorade, spindrift, energy)
• 🍿 light snacks (clif bars, fruit bars, etc)
• 🚽 port-a-potty
• ⛺️ shade tents
• 🪩 a memorable day!

Please consider bringing or wearing sunscreen, your own water bottle, something to sit on (we are all bringing chairs from home but it might not be enough), etc. It’s supposed to be ☀️ HOT!

Words just can't express how overjoyed we are to see this project come to life. It has been listed in our Transportation Improvement Program since 2008. It was originally nominated to the organization in 2001!

Join us this Saturday for a community-driven Asphalt Art event at the TGFX Intersection. From 11 AM to 6 PM, participants can collaborate to paint vibrant Alaskan Wildflowers, inspired by local students. FAST Planning will provide all necessary materials. We encourage everyone to wear suitable clothing and stay hydrated. Let's beautify our community together!
