⚠️ Community PSA ⚠️

Due to significant localized flooding, the Grant County Highway Department Of Indiana will be leaving their main gate open until 8:00 p.m. tonight for sandbags.

Please note, the bags are not pre-made, and you will need to fill them yourself. Bags and sand can be located behind the building next to the Salt Barn.

This is for ALL of Grant County, not limited to Mill Township

🚨 FLOODING ALERT & SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

The Fairmount Fire Department wants to advise all residents that we are currently experiencing local flooding across several roadways in our area.

Please exercise extreme caution if you must travel today:

🌊 Turn Around, Don't Drown: Never attempt to drive through flooded roads or bypass barricades. It takes as little as 6 inches of moving water to sweep a person off their feet, and 12 inches to carry away a vehicle.

⚠️ Stay Alert: Water depth and road conditions underneath floodwaters are impossible to gauge. What looks like a shallow puddle could hide a washed-out road or deep hazard.

If you encounter a flooded roadway or a water hazard, please turn around and find an alternate route. In case of emergency, immediately call 911.

The team has been working hard to out fit the new truck with all of its equipment. They spent about two weeks every evening after they got off from their day jobs at the station mounting equipment and getting everything set up.We are very proud of all the hard work they have put in getting this truck in service and ready to serve our community. Thank you guys for the late nights and effort in making this truck what it is! Here is a little video we put together showcasing the fruits of their labor!

The Fairmount Fire Department would like to extend a huge thank you to Spencer Manufacturing,Inc for building our new custom truck. We greatly appreciate the hard work, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and dedication that went into making this truck a reality. After 2 years of planning, traveling, reviewing specs, and finally accepting delivery, the truck committee came home with the new Pump 1 today from Spencer Manufacturing in South Haven, MI. In the following weeks, the new truck will be upfitted with equipment before being placed in service. Be sure to watch throughout town to catch a glimpse of it!

On March 14, 2026 Fairmount Fire Department was dispatched to the area of State Road 26 and County road 500 E for a report of a male electrocuted. Fairmount P.D. arrived on scene within minutes of the dispatch and immediately rendered aid along with bystanders, shortly after Fairmount Fire arrived on scene and took over CPR. Grant County EMS and Fire personnel then continued life saving measures while in route to the helicopter pad at Marion Health East to intercept with Luthran Air. Mill Township Fire Department, Gas City Fire Department, Grant County Central Dispatch and Grant County EMA also assisted. Today on May 26, 2026 members involved in the life saving measures were able to meet the patient and were presented with life saving awards and are happy to report the patient is home and recovering well.

From the early risers to the last plate served, we truly appreciate the amazing turnout and the continued support from our community. It was great seeing so many familiar faces (and meeting some new ones too)!

A special thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible — our volunteers, department members, and anyone who lent a hand behind the scenes. We couldn’t do it without you.

Your support helps us continue to serve and protect our community, and we are incredibly grateful.

Today’s the day! The Fairmount Fire Department is ready to serve up a great breakfast this morning from 7:00–10:00 AM at the fire station.

Bring your family, friends, and appetite and come enjoy a hot stack of pancakes, good conversation, and time with your local firefighters. It’s a great way to start your day while supporting the department and the community we’re proud to serve.
