Fraud Alert

The attached image is a fraudulent invoice being sent, instructing the recipients that they owe more money for services obtained from the county. In addition, there have been emails stating the same. The notices and emails advise the recipient to communicate only by email and to wire the money. Neither way is standard business practice for the county.
If you have any questions about a county document, call the county office directly. You can find the contact information for any county office at https://www.churchillcountynv.gov/

Words of Thanks for your Support

The month of April was extremely difficult for the men and women who serve at the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office as we mourned the loss of Sheriff Richard Hickox.
In the weeks following his passing, the Churchill County community and businesses, along with our brothers and sisters from surrounding law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies, showed our agency that we were not alone. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to everyone who stopped by, sent cards, offered condolences, dropped off food for Sheriff’s Office personnel, and shared kind words on our page about Sheriff Hickox. It would be impossible to thank everyone without missing someone, as the support was tremendous.

We would also like to recognize the Fallon Police Department, the Nevada State Police, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for providing law enforcement coverage for our county, thereby allowing all members of our agency to attend the funeral.

We extend our thank you to the Nevada Regional Honor Guard, area Law Enforcement Mounted Units, Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and Reno PD for the considerable work that went into the services.

Thank you to the state, county, and city dignitaries, including Governor Lombardo, for attending and honoring Sheriff Hickox.

Additionally, we would like to thank Churchill County Manager Chris Spross for his communication, support, and assistance to our department during this difficult time, as well as the staff of the Rafter 3C Arena for accommodating the funeral services.

We are deeply grateful for the support, kindness, and compassion shown to our agency and to Sheriff Hickox’s family. Thank you for standing with us.

🚓New Technology in Place to Help Keep Our Community Safe 🚓

You may have noticed a new device installed near the Walmart area. This is a Motorola Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR), and we want to take a moment to explain what it is and how it works.

An ALPR system is a camera that captures images of license plates on vehicles traveling on public roadways. The system automatically checks those plates against databases of vehicles that are associated with criminal activity, such as Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, stolen vehicles, missing persons cases, or wanted suspects.

🔍 What this means for you:
• The ALPR only captures license plate numbers and basic vehicle information.
• It is used strictly for legitimate law enforcement purposes.
• It helps officers quickly identify vehicles connected to crimes, improving response times and public safety.

⚖️ Your Rights Matter:
We understand that privacy is important. ALPR systems do not track individuals, access personal driver information, or monitor people beyond what is visible on a public roadway. The technology operates within established legal guidelines and is similar to what an officer can observe from a patrol vehicle.

Our goal is simple: enhance public safety while respecting the rights of everyone in our community.

If you have questions about this technology, feel free to reach out to one of the Sheriff’s Office Administrators. We are always happy to provide more information.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep our community safe. 👮‍♂️
