Almost two weeks back at school already—and things are definitely humming along! 💙

From our Back-to-School Ice Cream Social to Compass School Board meetings, PTO gatherings, and School Accountability Committee meetings, there’s a lot happening around campus beyond what you see during the school day.

If you’re new to charter schools, you might not realize just how much happens behind the scenes to support the school, students, and families. And a lot of that work happens because our community shows up.

Parents and family members: there are lots of ways to get involved at Compass, whether you have a little time to give or want to take on a bigger role.

We’d love to have you be part of it.

Because school is better when the whole community pitches in.

💙 LOVE SCHOOL.

What's an elective at Compass? It's a class students choose to explore an interest, learn a new skill, or try something a little different from their core classes.

And here, that can mean getting into the shop and building something with your own two hands.

Construction 1 is an 8-week hands-on course where students learn the tools in our construction lab and, more importantly, how to use them safely and properly.

Each class starts with instruction designed to give students the skills they need to work on their own personal projects. As the weeks go on, students get more and more time to build, create, and put those skills into practice.

And yes... everyone cleans up.

The final 10 minutes of every class are dedicated to shop cleanup, because learning how to take care of your workspace is part of learning how to work in one.

Tools. Skills. Creativity. Problem-solving. A project you can actually hold in your hands. That's a pretty great elective.

What does a day at Compass actually look like? 🔍

On any given day, students might be presenting their learning, putting finishing touches on a project, heading out into the community, building something in our construction lab, getting outside, or sharing a quick laugh between classes.

It’s a mix of thinking, creating, and connecting with people. ✨

No two days look exactly the same—and that’s part of what students tend to remember most about their time at Compass.

Summer has a way of flying by, doesn't it?

School starts TOMORROW for all NEW students and Wednesday for ALL students. Today was our annual Compass Ice Cream Social where returning students got to reconnect, new families made connections, and everyone made a start to easing back into the rhythm of a new school year.

It's going to be a GREAT year!

With a new school year around the corner, we have a question for Compass families ...

What’s your student most excited about?

Will it be the projects that turn ideas into something they can build, test, and share?

Their first ride on the MAX with classmates as they head out into the community?

Meeting local business owners, scientists, artists, and organizations that help bring learning to life?

Finding new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and discovering where they belong?
Or maybe it’s something they haven’t even experienced yet.

One of the best parts of Compass is that learning doesn’t stay inside the classroom. Students explore, create, collaborate, and make real-world connections that help them see what’s possible—not just for a grade, but for life.
