Children's Story was extra special at the Fort Kent Public Library on Saturday. It all started when are first arrivals built a special library train using the chairs in our children's section. You might not notice, but if you look closely, you'll see that each train car has a stuffed animal, and each stuffed animal has a library book! Then Miss Rory Collings read some great stories for all the little ones who came to enjoy the day. And then, we had a special guest when Sean arrived with a double armful of tacos. He is the owner and manager of Le Fumoir, Fort Kent's brand new Mexican food restaurant. You'll see one of our other guest readers, Kalina Conover, leading the children in the Taco Song as Sean was setting out all the yummy tacos, Spanish rice, beans and other condiments that he'd donated. The morning ended with the kids cheering Sean and thanking him for coming to visit us. Le Fumoir is located on Market Street where Doris' Cafe used to be.

We'll have a break from the rain on Saturday morning, so bring your little ones to the Fort kent Public Library at 10 a.m. for Children's Story Time. Our guest reader will be Rory Collings, and she'll read stories, sing songs and engage the munchkins in some fun activities. The folks from Fort Kent's newest eatery, La Fumiere, are also visiting the library, and they are bringing a special gift. We'll see you on Saturday!

At 1 p.m. today, the Fort Kent Public Library is hosting an accessibility forum. This special event will help the community guide the public library as it addresses issues with accessibility that folks sometimes experience at the library. We'll look at areas we could improve for folks facing mobility challenges, vision and hearing barriers, and mental health struggles. The forum is a chance for community leaders, civic organizations, caregivers and those facing accessibility issues in our community to help us understand how the library can better serve everyone in our region. There are door prizes, snacks and a fun atmosphere for a serious topic. A grant from the American Library Association is helping us to bring this topic to our community's attention.

If you see these lovely folks working around the Fort Kent Public Library today, be sure to tell them how wonderful they are. The KeyBank staff from the Fort Kent branch spent Tuesday afternoon at the FKPL, cleaning windows, repairing damage, creating flowerbeds and touching up the rough spots as part of KeyBank's Community Day. We are grateful for each of these folks who spent the day making our public library the community hub we've come to enjoy. KeyBank rocks!

Calling all readers! It's time to hit the road!
FORT KENT, Maine - The Fort Kent Public Library is thrilled to announce the Route One Summer Reading Challenge, and we want YOU behind the wheel!
US Route 1, which stretches all the way from our own Fort Kent, Maine to Key West, Florida, is turning 100 years old in 2026, and we're celebrating in style. Starting June 2 through September 1, you can travel the full length of this iconic highway… without ever leaving your favorite reading chair.
Here's how it works:
Register your "vehicle" for just $10
Read books set in, or written by authors from, each of the 15 states along US Route 1
Collect tickets as you travel from Maine to Florida (or Florida to Maine, your choice!)
Watch out for detours & construction zones with mystery envelopes along the way
Stop at 5 souvenir shops for special giveaways (while supplies last!)
Earn bonus tickets and be entered to win a gift bag filled with Fort Kent Public Library goodies!
Whether you're a speed reader or a leisurely cruiser, there's a road trip adventure waiting for you this summer.
Stop by the library to register and pick up your map. Let's ride!
