"My story began the moment I realized I had the power to create meaningful change, both within my own life and in the lives of others, if I chose to act with intention and purpose. That understanding sparked a shift in me, one that led to a deep passion for supporting individuals of all backgrounds and abilities. It started in the classroom, where I first discovered the impact of connection, encouragement, and belief. Over time, that purpose expanded beyond my own students and grew into a commitment to walk alongside teachers, students, and families across our district, helping to navigate the complexities of learning and growth together. This journey is rooted in the belief that when we act with purpose, we open doors, not just for ourselves, but for everyone around us."

- Olivia Shaffer (Assistant Director of Special Education, Northwest Allen County Schools)

✨September is National Recovery Awareness Month

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is another word for addiction. It means someone’s use of alcohol or drugs is causing serious problems in their life—like health issues, trouble at work or school, or problems at home.

This is urgent: Millions are affected. In 2020, over 61 million people binge drank, and nearly 60 million people age 12+ used illegal drugs. Addiction can impact anyone. Let’s raise awareness and support recovery. 💜

🩵✨Faces of Recovery

Meet Tiffany, one of the many courageous women in our Faces of Recovery series. Through YWCA Northeast Indiana’s addiction recovery program, she is reclaiming her life, finding hope, and building a brighter future. When asked what the program means to her, Tiffany shared, "I was one wrong step away from losing custody of my son, I didn't have any family to support me, and I felt bound to alcohol. This place saved me and kept me and my son together". We’re proud to stand alongside women like Tiffany as they take bold steps toward healing and empowerment.

👉Join us in raising awareness for substance use disorder at our upcoming event, Music for a Mission: Healing with Harmony. Together, we can support recovery, celebrate resilience, and create lasting change in our community.

"My prologue moment was the day I understood that trying to hold everyone and everything together was slowly pulling me apart. As a daughter, wife, mother, and leader, I spent years putting myself last—until my father's dementia journey taught me that resilience isn't sacrificing yourself for everyone else, and strength isn't about carrying everything alone. It's about asking for help, setting boundaries, and learning that caring for others starts with caring for yourself."

-Melissa McKown (CEO, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne)
