Since 2022, the Vernon Township Trustee’s Office has led a special partnership with Hancock County CASA to bring comfort, dignity, and joy to children served by CASA through the annual CASA Care Bag Initiative.

Each holiday season, the Vernon Township Trustee’s Office helps rally our community to fill CASA Care Bags with essentials, comfort items, and special gifts for children currently served by Hancock County CASA.

This year, the initiative is growing beyond the holidays. Together with Hancock County CASA, the Vernon Township Trustee’s Office is helping launch CASA Journey Bags—bags designed to provide children entering the CASA program with personal essentials and comforting items from the very beginning of their journey.

Thank you to everyone who assisted with the Flood Relief program. Jennifer Cary got the promotion together! Ed and Kristie Rishel went above and beyond donating hours on site collecting and sorting. Plus generously donating resources including their trailer! FARM - Fortville Area Resource Mission and Speedway Gas Station made large donations. Our local scouts and many families donated. The Fortville Farmers Market hosted a Thursday night drive which helped raise $580 for supplies. Vernon Township Fire Department hauled and loaded while also managing the Red Cross blood drive. And Buck Creek Fire Department is managing the delivery of supplies to Cambridge City. Thank you all for your generosity.

Thank you to everyone who came out to donate for Flood Relief tonight! Our community is so generous and it was so heartening to see children participating in the donations. Special thanks to Kristie & Eddie Rishel for their support. And to Fortville's Speedway for their large donation. We will be collecting again tomorrow (Friday) during the blood drive at 602 Vitality Drive Fortville.

UPDATE: We are getting requests for fans in addition to the items below and on the flyer. Please do not bring perishable food items.

McCordsville and Fortville Community Challenge: Fill the Flood Relief Trailer with necessities by Thursday! Bring industrial trash bags, masks, rubber gloves, bleach, detergent and all the items listed in the flyer to 602 Vitality Drive Fortville. Our office is open 8:30-5 weekdays. On Thursday, we will have the Fortville Farmers Market in our lot with a booth for collections from 4-7 pm. We will deliver to Anderson and Cambridge City on Friday and Saturday. 🩸🚒 Help Us Celebrate One Year of Whole Blood at Vernon Township Fire Department! 🚒🩸

One year ago, Vernon Township Fire Department placed our first unit of low-titer O whole blood into service. Since then, we’ve been proud to provide this lifesaving resource to the residents of Vernon Township, Hancock County, and our neighboring agencies whenever it’s needed for patients suffering from severe hemorrhagic shock.

In just one year, VTFD has transfused 11 units of whole blood to 10 patients.

Those patients have included new mothers experiencing life-threatening bleeding, victims of severe traumatic injuries, and patients suffering from critical medical hemorrhages. Every unit of blood has represented a chance to bring critical care to the patient at bedside. Without question, this program has helped people return home to the ones who love them.

As proud as we are of what this program has accomplished, we can’t do it without you.

The American Red Cross is currently reporting a critical shortage of blood products, and every donation has the potential to save multiple lives.

That’s why we’re inviting the Vernon Township community to celebrate this milestone with us by donating blood at our One-Year Anniversary Blood Drive!

The flood relief donations are coming in! Thank you so much to everyone who pitched in over the weekend. We are collecting at the Vernon Township office at 602 Vitality Drive Fortville (next to Station 431) and at Station 432 in McCordsville next to Leo's Market & Eatery. We have such a generous community. Thank you for your calls, texts and emails. The list of needs will likely change over the next few days but for now please see the list on the flyer.
