A new semester means new adventures. Ride smart & stay safe.

Wear a helmet.
Use your lights. At least front white light and rear red LED light on your e-bike.
Use warning devices (horns, bells).
Ride on the right side of the road, with traffic not against it.
Keep your tires properly inflated and charge batteries outside.
Be a defensive driver – don’t expect traffic to anticipate your movements – slow down in questionable situations.
Obey traffic laws.

Congratulations to the first class of Gainesville Fire Rescue's Teen Firefighter Summer Camp, Class of 2026! 🚒🔥

Last month we held our first-ever Teen Firefighter Summer Camp! These students got hands-on experience learning what it takes to serve their community from fireground skills and equipment to teamwork, leadership, and life safety.

We’re so proud of everything this group accomplished and the enthusiasm they brought to every challenge. A huge congratulations to the inaugural class of 2026! We can’t wait to see where your dedication, courage, and passion take you.

A special thank you to all the individuals and organizations that came together to help us make this camp so amazing.

Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a multi-residential structure fire at Cypress Villas Apartments, 2330 SW 35th Place. The fire was contained to the apartment of origin. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Gainesville Fire Rescue’s Tower 1 Technical Rescue recently took their training more than 200 feet above the ground during a high-angle rescue exercise on a tower crane.

Crews simulated the rescue of an injured worker suspended from the side of the crane, requiring rescuers to climb the structure, establish rope systems, reach the suspended worker, and safely perform the rescue at height.

Technical rescues like this require specialized equipment, teamwork, communication, and extensive training. Opportunities to train in real-world environments help our crews stay prepared for the unique challenges they may encounter throughout our community.

This morning crews from Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a vehicle accident with extrication in the 6300 block of SW 13 St. Crews worked seamlessly to extricate 2 occupants from the vehicle. GFR reminds its citizens to always wear your seatbelt.

Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue crews responded quickly to a working apartment fire at 1000 SW 62ND Blvd. Forest View Apartments. The fire is out. (Picture depicts multiple emergency units at an apartment complex)
