The Germantown Police Department is a professional, progressive law
enforcement organization committed to serving the citizens of Germantown,
Tennessee. Our police department is organized into four divisions: Police Services,
Uniform Patrol, Investigations and Communications. We currently number more than
100 officers and approximately 25 public safety dispatchers. The Germantown Police
Department has earned accreditation through the Tennessee Law Enforcement
Accreditation Program, a program created and managed by the Tennessee Association
of Chiefs of Police.

On Monday, September 28 at approximately 2:45 p.m. the Germantown Police Department responded to a death investigation at Houston Levee Park, located behind Houston High School. A contracted employee, who was performing maintenance at the park, was involved in an accident involving a piece of lawn equipment. The circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation. No GMSD personnel or students were involved in this incident and there is no threat to the community.

Last week the Germantown Police Department officers visited with children at the Harvest Church Parents Day Out program and St. George’s Independent School. Officers brought a BearCat and a squad car to allow the children to safely view the vehicles up close. We appreciate these opportunities to engage with the public and connect with the youngest members of our community.

In recognition of Child Passenger Safety Week, the Germantown Police Department encourages parents and caregivers to double-check that young passengers are using the proper car seat for their size and age. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends keeping children in rear-facing, forward-facing, or booster seats for as long as possible based on the manufacturer's height and weight limits. Moving a child to the next seat stage too early increases the risk of serious injury in a crash. Caregivers are urged to inspect their car seats for proper installation and ensure all children under 13 ride buckled in the back seat.
