🌱 Advanced Biology Students Bring Miniature Ecosystems to Life 🌿

Mr. Pagawisan’s Advanced Biology class has successfully concluded the construction phase of their final project: building self-sustaining biospheres! 🌍✨

Tasked with translating ecological concepts into a tangible model, students collaboratively planned and designed closed-system terrariums. 🪴 The hands-on building process required them to meticulously layer clay pebbles for drainage 🪨, pack nutrient-rich soil 🟤, and carefully arrange vibrant plant life. 🌿 To ensure a healthy and balanced miniature ecosystem, the young scientists also introduced essential decomposers, such as earthworms 🪱, to recycle nutrients once the glass containers were sealed. 🫙

With the physical construction complete, the students are now beginning a rigorous seven-day observation log. 📋🔬 They will actively monitor the water cycle 💧, plant growth 🌱, and overall ecological balance within their closed habitats, witnessing the principles of biology unfold in real-time. 📈🧬

🔬 Hands-On Learning in Action! 🐸⭐🪱

Mr. Pagawisan’s Sophomore Biology students have been hard at work rolling up their sleeves (and snapping on their gloves!) for some incredible hands-on science this week!

Our budding biologists stepped into the lab to dissect frogs, earthworms, and starfish. This immersive experience allows students to step away from the textbooks and explore complex internal structures up close, comparing the unique biological systems and adaptations of amphibians, annelids, and echinoderms.

We are incredibly proud of the respect, focus, and scientific curiosity these sophomores demonstrated during their dissections. It takes a lot of precision and teamwork to navigate these labs, and they did a fantastic job! Way to go, future scientists! 🧬🔬

Congratulations to Wyatt, Gresyn, and Koby! They will be piloting our first year of Early Start Program/College Pathways with Dawson Community College. They will begin their pathway in welding and should receive their welding certificate from DCC by the time they graduate next May from DCHS. They will have the opportunity to continue this pathway after graduation with the potential to earn an Associate’s degree. We would like to thank BreAnn Miller for working with us to provide this opportunity to our students. We hope to continue building more pathways for our students in the future to prepare them for the workforce after high school.

The Glendive Zonta Club and Dawson County High School Z-Club proudly recognized outstanding young women for their leadership and service during a special gathering on Sunday, May 3, at the Glendive Public Library.

Guest speakers from Glendive’s Domestic Violence Advocacy group shared valuable resources on conflict de-escalation, healthy relationships, and the vital support they provide within our community.

Z-Club and Zonta members, along with family and friends, also came together to assemble care bags for domestic violence survivors—turning inspiration into meaningful action through service.
