NOTICE – GLENDIVE LANDFILL

Due to a fire last night in the demolition disposal area, the Class 4 area of the landfill will be closed for the next couple of days while crews continue monitoring and working the site for remaining hot spots and safety concerns.
The Class 4 area includes demolition and construction debris such as lumber, sheetrock, shingles, concrete, and other demolition materials. Fires in these materials can continue to smolder underground and may reignite even after the visible fire is out.

The Class 2 HOUSEHOLD garbage area WILL REMAIN OPEN and normal residential garbage disposal operations will continue as usual.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while staff work to keep the site safe for both the public and landfill employees. Updates will be provided as needed.

Glendive has a real opportunity to solve a decades-old problem—and protect our future. 💧
This proposed levee improvement plan will be on the June 2026 ballot.
What this means for our community:
✔️ Stronger protection for lives, homes, and businesses during major floods
✔️ Many West Glendive properties could be removed from the floodplain—opening the door for new business and growth
✔️ Raising the levee by 3.5 feet for added security
✔️ Protection for essential businesses that Dawson County relies on
What it costs:
For most homeowners, the impact is minimal:
• $100,000 property value → about $12.94/year
• $200,000 property value → about $25.87/year
• $300,000 property value→ about $38.81/year
This is Glendive’s chance to invest in safety, stability, and long-term growth.
👉 Learn more and see how this affects you:

Flood risk is holding Glendive back & putting lives in danger.  Ice jams on the Yellowstone River can cause sudden, fast-moving floods that threaten homes, infrastructure, and businesses in Dawson County. For decades, this risk has also limited economic growth in West Glendive.
