Have you ever seen a pig with hair this curly?

Mangalitsas are a Hungarian heritage breed known for their unmistakable curly coats. Their thick, wool like hair helps protect them from the elements and keeps them warm through the colder months.

When summer arrives, they typically shed much of that thick winter coat to stay cooler. Then as the seasons change, those beautiful curls start growing back!

One of the many things that makes Mangalitsas such a unique breed. 🐷

Piglet playtime… or piglet WWE? 😂

If you’ve ever watched a group of piglets together, you’ve probably noticed there’s a LOT of chasing, wrestling, pushing, and play fighting going on!

While it can look pretty wild, this behavior is an important part of growing up. Piglets use these interactions to learn social boundaries, establish their place within the group, and work out their hierarchy, or “pecking order.”

Play fighting is also a great way for them to develop coordination, strength, confidence, and social skills!

We keep an eye on them to make sure normal play doesn’t turn into bullying or serious aggression. But a little piglet wrestling match? Totally normal!

They’re just having a serious meeting about who’s in charge. 😂🐷

Exciting day for the piggies! 🐷🌱

We just moved all the Mommas and piglets together for now into a different field that has turned into an absolute foraging buffet!

So much has sprouted, regrown, or reseeded from last year, giving them plenty to investigate and forage for. They’re finding radishes, turnips, tomatoes, squash, alfalfa, clover, buckwheat, peas, and so much more!

One of our favorite parts of regenerative farming is watching the land continue to give back. What was planted last year doesn’t necessarily end when the season does. Seeds drop, plants reseed themselves, roots stay behind, and new growth comes right back up.

And now the piggies get to do what pigs do best: dig, root, forage, and turn that abundance back into the soil. 🐽🌿
