We are thrilled to introduce the newest member of the Grafton Police Department family. Meet our summer college intern, Jillian!
Jillian is a lifelong resident of Grafton and is currently studying Criminology at West Virginia University. She joins us through our College Internship Program (CIP), which is a cornerstone of our department's commitment to investing in the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
We believe that exposing talented young students to the realities of modern policing is one of the most important things we can do for the future of public safety. By opening our doors to aspiring professionals like Jillian, we hope to inspire, educate, and shape the law enforcement leaders of tomorrow right here in our own community.
Throughout her time with us, Jillian will have the opportunity to gain hands-on insight into the daily operations of our department, work alongside our dedicated officers and staff, and expose her to the many specialty fields available to her under the criminal justice umbrella.
We are proud to support her growth and look forward to providing her with a meaningful, real-world learning experience.
Please join us in giving Jillian a warm Grafton welcome!

We are not by nature a toot our own horn organization, but from time to time we like to highlight the great work our team members are doing in the community. This past Memorial Day weekend our Dispatch Center received an emergency call at 2:00am Sunday morning reporting the snack bar and storage building at the Ferry Street Little League field was on fire.
Sergeant Joe Coggans, our mid-shift supervisor, was first on scene. Acting without delay, he grabbed a fire extinguisher from his cruiser and managed to keep the fire from spreading further until our Grafton firefighters arrived with water resources. Although the structure was damaged, it could have been far worse if not for Sgt. Coggans' quick action and the timely response of the Grafton MA Fire Department.
So kudos to Sgt. Coggans for a job well done. Grafton Little League showed their appreciation for Sgt. Coggans' actions by dropping off some liquid caffeine and two dozen energy circles (trademark pending). In true police fashion, the day shift drank and ate everything before Sgt. Coggans' next shift!

This past Memorial Day weekend we had the honor of coming together with our community to assist with flag laying at our veteran grave sites. It was wonderful to see so many of our young people, particularly our scouts and our sports teams, accompanied by parents and mentors teaching them about what community means and the importance of honoring those who sacrificed everything for our nation.

πŸ¦πŸš” GRAFTON LOCAL HISTORY MOMENT πŸš”πŸ¦

Some of you newcomers think you know this town. You don't know this town.

It is the year 1968. The Grafton Lions Club MA is throwing a 3-day, July 4th Carnival. Police details are arranged. Handshakes are made. The rate? A very reasonable $3.00/hour. Everyone goes home happy.

Except...

Somewhere between the appetizers and the final invoice, that number becomes $5.50/hour.

$2.50 more. Per hour.

And thus began a silence between two of Grafton's most storied institutions β€” a silence so thick you could slice it at the Annual Pancake Breakfast and serve it with maple syrup.

Old-timers will tell you the Lions still offer a side-eye when passing the station. Others say certain patrol cars take the long way around when Lions Club night is on the calendar. Nobody talks about it. EVERYBODY knows about it.

The bill was formally disputed before our duly elected Town officials. The VERDICT...in favor of the boys and girls in blue. It was also never formally forgotten. It stood like a long simmering pot of spaghetti sauce at Old Station 3....it simply exists β€” like Route 20 construction and the mystery of is it a gazebo or is it a bandstand... It's one of those things Grafton old guard carry in their bones.

If you see a Lion and a Grafton Police Officer in the same room this summer, watch the eyes. There's history there, friend. Cold, $2.50-per-hour history.

Today we pause to honor the men and women who gave everything so we could have everything. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedom we live every day. On this Memorial Day, we remember them, not just with gratitude, but with the promise to never forget. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
