Recent Instagram takeover host Edwin shared highlights from a summer research expedition to the Galápagos Islands, where he worked alongside UW-Green Bay biology professor Dr. Paolo Segre studying blue and Bryde's whales.
The project brought together researchers from multiple institutions to better understand whale behavior and the environmental conditions that influence marine ecosystems. Edwin helped deploy temporary suction-cup tags that track whale movement and collected oceanographic and plankton data used to study the relationship between ocean conditions and whale ecology.
The team's work may provide valuable insights into how warming ocean temperatures and El Niño conditions impact marine life.
For Edwin, the experience was more than a research trip. It was an opportunity to apply what he's learned at UW-Green Bay, work alongside professional scientists and contribute to research with global significance.
