*****UPDATE*****

COLUMBIA COUNTY - The Wisconsin State Patrol continues to investigate a series of crashes that occurred this morning along northbound I-39/90/94 in resulting in four fatalities and numerous injuries.

Authorities are thanking five citizens who pulled two motorists from their burning vehicle following the 6:45 a.m. crash.

The two state troopers injured in the 5:11 a.m. crash have been released from the hospital.

The Wisconsin State Patrol would like to thank the many partnering agencies who assisted with today's incidents including: Dane and Columbia County Sheriff Offices’; Columbia County Highway Department and medical examiner; Arlington Fire and EMS; Poynette Fire and EMS; Lodi Fire Department; Deforest and Sun Prairie EMS; Divine Savior EMS; DeForest Police; and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

Other details of today’s crash:

At approximately 3:53 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a property damage, rear-end crash involving two semis at I-30/90/94 at WIS 60 near Lodi. The Columbia County Highway Department was called to the scene to assist with clean-up.

At approximately 5:11 a.m., a subsequent crash occurred when a straight truck traveling at highway speeds struck a State Patrol cruiser stopped at the initial crash scene. A county highway worker and two State Patrol officers standing outside of their vehicles were injured by flying debris. The county highway worker sustained serious injuries and the two State Patrol officers sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 6:45 a.m., as northbound traffic was queuing due to the earlier crashes, a major crash occurred about one mile south of the two initial crashes. A semi-tractor traveling at highway speeds created a chain-reaction crash involving at least eight vehicles - three semi-tractor trailers, a dump truck and four passenger vehicles. The crash resulted in four fatalities and three serious injuries.

Northbound I-39/90/94 was closed at WIS 19 (exit 131) for about seven hours with traffic re-routed onto US 51 north.

SCAM ALERT! One of our staff members is the VP of the WCPPA - Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association and wanted to share the following message.

As I enjoy a cup of coffee and peruse Facebook this morning we are seeing some folks 'sharing' posts in order to win one thing or another. Be careful with these posts....oftentimes they are scams where they are trying to get access to your friends and potentially install 'malware' through posts.

So how do we know it's a scam??? We’ll check two out from this morning. They indicate that they are from Jayco and Newmar and are giving away some pretty cool RVs, just in time for summer. Sounds a little too good to be true...but maybe - just maybe - it might be true.

Take your investigation one step further and click on the profile of these ‘companies’. Here you will find your big red flag! Neither one has a blue check mark indicating they are a verified company by Facebook. Also neither one has any other posts, pictures or info about them! Chances are a legitimate company is going to have a lot of posts and not just one.

So what is the deal here. These are scammers that are running a few angles here. Number one is ‘like farming’ where they get as many likes and shares, gathering the info of those along the way. The other angle is they may contact you stating you are the winner and look for your personal info and seek monies to pay the ‘taxes’ or ‘fees’ for the prize.

Be careful...be a detective!!

Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Dept

This past weekend was not the best one for our partners at Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Dept as they responded to a fatal car accident and a large fire a couple of hours later.

Fortunately the fire did not result in any injuries and could have been much worse if not for a few closed doors. It is hard to believe that something as simple as a closed door can be the difference between life and death.

Take a look at the video - it’ll make you a believer!

“CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE”

The Sister Bay & Liberty Grove Fire Department would like to thank our mutual aid partners for there assistance last night.
We would like to also thank all of the residents and neighbors affected by this fire for their cooperation and understanding in what is a difficult situation for all of them.
We have been fortunate to be given permission to share with you a video that clearly shows the value of sleeping with your doors closed. The phrase to remember is “Close before you doze”

Check out closeyourdoor.org for more info.

Just heard the sad news......Ken Osmond - 'Eddie Haskell' from Leave it to Beaver fame passed away today.

A little unknown fact about Ken is that in 1970, he joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and grew a mustache which helped to secure his anonymity. He worked in vice and narcotics and as a motorcycle officer.

On September 20, 1980, Osmond was hit by three bullets while in a foot chase with a suspected car thief. He was protected from two of the bullets by his bulletproof vest, with the third bullet ricocheting off of his belt buckle. Osmond eventually retired from the force in 1988.

The shooting was later dramatized in a November 1992 episode of the CBS series Top Cops.

The photos below show a young Ken as Eddie and then as he sat in the back of an ambulance after being shot.
