Departments throughout Maine are participating in the Pink Patch Project. Since 2020 departments have raised tens of thousands of dollars to support local breast care centers. This month, we ask for your help to support this project.

All proceeds go to local breast care centers.

How to participate:

Press Release:
This week Officers of the Hallowell Police department were investigating a tip regarding a s*x offender who was in violation of the registry and had set up camp in the woods near the elementary School. On Winthrop street, Officers discovered the camp site in close proximity to the University of Maine Campus dorms and the Halldale Elementary School. Officers discovered evidence which corroborated the tip and determined that Stephen Huffer age 47 was living in Hallowell near the schools. Huffer is a lifetime s*x offender in Maine and is required to register within 24 hours of moving to a new location. Huffer failed to comply with this restriction.
Late in the evening of 9/9/25 Officer set up surveillance and arrested Mr. Huffer while in his tent. Huffer is currently on probation for gross s*xual assault and unlawful s*xual contact. Additionally he was free on bail conditions for a pending felony charge of violation of the s*x offender registry laws.
This will be the 3 time since 2021 that Huffer has been arrested for violation of s*x offender registry requirements. Huffer is currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail without bail.

Be aware of this latest scam...

𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: Mainers got another round of scam texts claiming to be from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Remember:

✅NEVER click a link in an unsolicited text or email.
✅NEVER provide identifying or financial information to an unsolicited caller.
✅Urgency is ALWAYS a red flag – if they are telling you that you must act quickly or risk a consequence, it is likely a scam.
✅Legitimate government agencies will RARELY contact you by text for sensitive matters. The BMV will send such correspondence by mail.
✅If you're not sure if a message is true, ALWAYS verify its legitimacy by contacting the official source directly by looking up the number.

Drive safe folks. Here is a PERFECT reminder to be attentive and avoid losing control of your vehicle. Multiple 911 calls today for this Winthrop street crash. The crash involved one vehicle which nearly struck a school bus. The driver was distracted at the time of the crash and over corrected while avoiding the stopped school bus. The 19 year old Lewiston woman was charged for operating without a license, operating with a suspended registration, failing to maintain control of a motor vehicle and failing to display a valid inspection. Thank you to Augusta Rescue, Hallowell Fire, Manchester Fire, and Capitol PD for assistance treating the injured and managing scene safety.

Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - a record amount of prescription drugs.

Keep them safe. Clean them out. Take them back!
