During our recent monthly training exercise, our firefighters focused on Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) techniques. To simulate real-life fire conditions, face masks were obscured to create low-visibility environments.

Firefighters had to navigate by feel, following the hose line to locate a downed firefighter. Once found, they connected an auxiliary air supply to provide life-saving oxygen before safely dragging the firefighter to safety.

Training like this ensures our team is always prepared to respond when every second counts. Great job to all who participated!

Hamlet Fire Department Responds to Two Major Incidents in One Day.

2/13/25-The Hamlet Fire Department had a busy day responding to two significant emergency incidents, providing critical support and emergency response services.

The first call came at 2:30 a.m., when Hamlet fire crews were dispatched to assist the Knox Fire Department at a residential structure fire. As the second-due department, Hamlet firefighters supplied water and manpower to aid in the fire attack. Crews remained on the scene to assist until operations concluded.

Later in the day, at 3:30 p.m., Hamlet Fire was dispatched to a two-vehicle head-on collision near the intersection of CR 400 N and SR 35. Upon arrival, firefighters worked swiftly to extricate both patients from their vehicles. Due to the severity of injuries, Lutheran Air and MedFlight were called to the scene, and both patients were airlifted for emergency medical care.

Hamlet Fire was assisted by Knox Fire and Koontz Lake Fire. Additional agencies on scene included Starke County Sheriff's Department, Starke County EMS, Knox Police Dept. and Howard & Sons Towing.

The Hamlet Fire Department would like to thank all responding agencies for their teamwork and dedication to public safety.

🚒Hamlet Fire Upgrades Extrication Equipment;

We proud to announce the addition of new state-of-the-art vehicle extrication equipment to our fleet. This upgrade includes battery-operated spreaders, cutters, mini cutters, and a hydraulic ram. These new tools are not only stronger and faster than our older hydraulic line units but also provide greater mobility, allowing us to operate in various locations without being limited by hydraulic hoses.

After carefully evaluating several brands, we selected the equipment that best fits our department’s needs. Our commitment to improving our capabilities ensures that we can continue providing the highest level of service to our community. At the Hamlet Fire Department, we believe that we are only as effective as the tools we use, and these new additions will help us serve you better in emergency situations when seconds count.

Approximately 1pm, the Hamlet Fire Department was dispatched for an automatic mutual aid call to assist Koontz Lake Fire Department at Howard & Sons Towing. The caller reported a pole barn structure fire with heavy smoke showing.

Hamlet Engine 8-2 and tanker 8-3 was the first to arrive on the scene and quickly made entry into the structure, successfully extinguishing the flames.

While the structure is repairable and equipment can be replaced, the most important news is that no injuries were reported.

We’re proud of the teamwork and quick response that ensured the safety of everyone involved. A big thank you to our dedicated firefighters and mutual aid partners for their efforts.
