Thank you to everyone who joined our Hammond Common Council and first responders last evening for the Hammond 2nd District Community Crime Watch Meeting! Fire Chief Bernie Grisolia shared fire safety information for families, and Sgt. Andy Laurice provided residents with an update from our Police Department and answered questions.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. and the City of Hammond will celebrate the 13th Annual Veterans Appreciation Day Parade on Saturday, November 7th, 2026, at 10 AM in Hammond’s 5th and 6th Districts.

The parade will travel from Olcott Avenue, Eastbound on 173rd Street, and conclude at the Hessville Park Veterans Memorial.

Parade participants will include local members of American Legion and VFW posts, area high school bands, and other musical entertainment. The Lima Lima Flight Team will also perform a special flyover at approximately 9:45 AM. Be sure to arrive early and grab your seats along the route!

Following the parade, join us at the Hessville Park Veterans Memorial at the corner of 173rd Street and Kennedy Avenue for a short ceremonial program honoring and recognizing our veterans.

Join the Jean Shepherd Community Center and Franciscan Health for Walk, Breathe, & Be Well TODAY, Thursday, October 22nd, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Dowling Park! 👟 🌳
This free weekly walking program is designed to help participants stay active, connect with others, and support their overall well-being. Each session will begin with a brief health education topic, followed by a group walk incorporating movement and mindfulness. No registration is required, and participants will meet in the Jean Shepherd Community Center located at 3031 J.F. Mahoney Dr., Hammond.
