Spitler Elementary

Spitler Elementary Welcome to Spitler Elementary. Home of the Lil' Pirates! We are a Young 5's-4th grade building. Our principal is Mr. Brandon Bruce and our Dean of Students is Mrs.

Spitler Elementary is located in Hart, Michigan and in the Hart Public School District. Our K-4 building is comprised of 500+ students, depending on the time of year. Kara Baker. Mark D. Platt is the superintendent at Hart Public Schools. Daily each class receives a 50-minute special which includes Physical Education, Music, STEM and Art. Spitler provides Universal Breakfast and Lunch that is FREE

every day to every student 7:45 A.M. to 8:15 A.M. Students not eating breakfast may go directly to the playground starting at 8:00 A.M. The bell rings at 8:15 A.M. Students then proceed to their classroom. We also have an after school program called Project FOCUS. Project FOCUS is a program of TrueNorth Community Services and receives funding through a 21st Century Learning Center grant from the Michigan Department of Education. Any student in grades 1st-4th may participate in this FREE program. The Spitler P.T.O. (Parent Teacher Organization) is a formal organization that consists of parents, teachers and staff. Our P.T.O. is comprised of a board which includes a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and financial specialist. The board governs the P.T.O. by creating and voting on meeting dates, general meeting programs, etc... The organization's goals include volunteerism of parents, encouragement of teachers and students, community involvement, and welfare of students and families. Hart Public Schools values the safety of all our students. At the end of the day and prior to dismissal time, for the safety of ALL students, all parents/visitors are to wait outside the building. Spitler Homework Policy -

Educational research has concluded that traditional “pencil and paper” homework given at the elementary level does not positively affect student achievement and learning. In fact, it can have negative effects such as reinforcing ineffective study habits, incorrect work routines, and strategies, as well as, increasing frustration. For this reason, at Spitler, we will not be assigning traditional “pencil and paper” homework to our students this year. However, assignments that were not completed in class may be sent home to be finished, and/or extra practice, will be available upon parent request. We also hope that this homework policy gives you additional time to spend as a family. If you are in need of suggestions as to what your child can do at home to positively affect their learning, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or here are a few ideas to get you started:

Read a book or magazine. Measure out ingredients while baking/cooking. Measure things with a tape measure. Read, write, add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers. Write a letter to a friend or family member. Build something out of odds and ends. Make patterns using different kinds of beans or pasta. Play a card or board game. Count forwards and backwards , skip count by 2, 5, 10, etc. Work on a puzzle. Last Updated: June 2025
