This morning Chief Deputy Claussen presented plaques to Sheriff Koranda, Dispatcher/Jailer Jan Jansen, and Emergency Manager/911 Coordinator Kevin Garvin in honor and appreciation of their 30 years of dedicated service to the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office. Thirty years is more than a career. It’s a lifetime of commitment, sacrifice, and service to something greater than oneself. Thank you!

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office participated in the "Make it Click" Enforcement from May 15th through May 31st. During that time Deputies spent extra time patrolling the highways, streets, and county roads in Cedar County in an attempt to keep our communities and roadways safe.

During the "Make it Click" timeframe, Cedar County Deputies issued 31 citations for speeding violations out of 78 total contacts.
Some of the other violations Deputies encountered are:
Arrest for Driving During Suspension: 1
Citation for No Operator’s License: 1
Speeding Warning: 35
No Insurance Warning: 2
Wrong Way in a One Way Warning: 1
Handheld Wireless Device Warning: 1
Child Restraint Warning: 2
Vehicle Lighting Defect: 4

A visual survey was completed during this period and 84% were wearing their seat belts, compared to 78% during the "pre-enforcement" period a week prior to the event. We would like to see this number closer to 100%. Please do your part to increase the use of seat belts!

Deputies will continue looking for these violations in an attempt to make our roadways safer for everyone.

The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the “Make It Click” mobilization that will be taking place beginning May 15th,2026 through May 31st, 2026. Whether you’re driving across town to celebrate graduations or taking a trip for the long Memorial Day weekend, remember that more drivers will be on the roads than usual. More vehicles on the roads increases the likelihood of a motor vehicle crash. The Cedar County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing traffic patrol on the highways, streets, and county roads in Cedar County working traffic violations with an emphasis on seat belt related offenses, child restraint compliance as well as other traffic offenses. Our goal is to reduce the number of fatalities that occur when vehicle passengers fail to buckle up. Make it Click. Every Trip. Every Time.
