Today perry county lost a great, firefighter, fire chief, Veteran, father, Grandfather, Husband. Carter Hall was a great man who loved his community, friends and family of you was in distress he was on the scene assisting you thru that emergency. When we used to cook for fire school he stood by the grill and fried as many burgers, hotdogs as we needed to feed the crew that came out. He offered wisdom knowledge and friendship to those who needed it and would give you the shirt off his back to help you.
Here’s to you sir God Speed on your journey to the other side watch over the ones down here doing the work whisper on his ear if you don’t care for us “ You see that one right there they are special to me give them a little extra time if you don’t care God they have a lot to do to help others and I thank ya”

ELEVATED FIRE DANGER THROUGH THIS EVENING...

Low to very low humidities, very dry fuels, and breezy conditions
will combine to result in Elevated Fire Danger through this
evening. Winds will subside and humidities will gradually recover
after sunset.

Remember that Kentucky regulations make it illegal to burn
between the hours of 6 AM and 6 PM within 150 feet of a woodland
or brushland during the Spring Forest Fire Season that runs until
April 30th.

No burning before 6pm
You can Burn after 6pm to 6 Am
Can’t be within 150 feet of a wooded area
You must stay with it and have a garden hose with you.

Tonight Avawam Fire Department was requested to assist Krypton FD on a Structure Fire. We responded with man power and tanker 248 to assist. The structure and garage was a total loss Red Cross was notified by Emergency Management, two residents were taken to Hazard ARH to be checked out for smoke inhalation.

It is with great sadness that we make this post one of our founding members passed away and will be missed dearly. Helen Westerfield was a great lady she would always make sure you was fed either by food or with kind words for your soul. She was a great cook and would send food for the crew on Tuesday nights when we had training. She loved family friends and the fire department we will see you again soon please keep her family in your prayers during this time of need Thank You in advance for the prayers and support for the family

Helen Faye Westerfield born November 3, 1940, departed this life on Sunday December 21, 2025, at The Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard, KY, being 85 years old. Helen was born in Williams Branch-Ary, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Charlie Crawford and the late Mallie Crawford. Other than her

Yesterday was our annual Christmas Dinner we had lots of good food and friends and family to attend. We set up the memorial table to honor those who passed on to remember who helped pave the way for those serving now. We played games won prizes ate good food and had great fellowship with members. We would like to thank all our members for all you do for our department and our community your commitment and dedication is outstanding THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.
