Ending this week on a high note: Congratulations to Deborah Noble on the purchase of her beautiful new home! 🏡❤️

After losing her home in the devastating 2022 flood, Deborah made the courageous decision to rebuild on higher ground - purchasing property just up the road from where her previous home once stood so she and her family could have a safer future outside the floodplain.

Deborah’s new home was built using our “The Branch” floorplan and was made possible through a combination of FEMA assistance and her own investment into construction costs. As an elderly homeowner helping raise her twin grandsons, this new beginning means so much more than just a house - it’s stability, comfort, and peace of mind for the years ahead.

We are honored to have been part of Deborah’s journey home and wish her and her grandsons many happy, safe, and joyful years in their new home. 💙🔑

Before we get back to building homes, we pause to honor those who helped build a nation. 🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, and we hold in gratitude those who continue to serve today.

Here in Appalachia, the tradition of Decoration Day reminds us that remembrance is an act of care - tending, honoring, and never forgetting. Today, we pause to remember those whose sacrifice helped build the foundation we stand on. ❤️🌿

🏡 A New Beginning at Chestnut Ridge

Yesterday evening, one of our newest houses officially became home - and this story is one of incredible determination and resilience.

In the aftermath of the historic 2022 East Kentucky flood in Knott County, this young homeowner’s life was turned upside down. The damage to her home was severe. As she shared with us:

“The rain leaked through the roof and caused the ceilings to fall in, and we ended up with mold spreading through the house. It wasn’t safe for my son at all. On top of that, a mudslide caused the ground and foundation to shift and the whole structure became unstable. Because of all that, we eventually had to move out.”

After leaving, she and her child moved into a rental that was still vulnerable to flooding and far from ideal. But she didn’t stop there.

In October 2025, she began working toward a different future. She put in the work, addressing credit challenges, completing housing counseling, and staying committed to the process. This month, that hard work paid off in a major way!

✨ She (homeowner name withheld by request) is now the proud owner of a new home at Chestnut Ridge. This new home was built on spec using our floor plan, "The Birch," and was selected by the new homeowner.

This moment is hers - made possible through her persistence and dedication. We were honored to walk alongside her and provide guidance along the way, but this achievement belongs to her and the future she is building for her family. 💙

We are grateful to the partners who helped make this possible, including the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, Community Project Funding secured by Congressman Hal Rogers, and Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati DRP funds.

Welcome home! 🗝️

Good Sunday morning, friends!

🎉🏪 Today was an exciting day for Hazard and our region as we joined the celebration of the grand opening of TJ Maxx in Hazard!

We’re especially grateful to share that the TJX Foundation has awarded HDA a $10,000 grant in support of our Safe & Healthy Homes Initiative, a vital part of our Home Repair Program. This funding will help us continue making critical repairs that create safer, healthier living environments for families in need across our service area. 🏡💛

Accepting the check on behalf of HDA were Home Repair Specialist Linda Taylor and Home Rehab Construction Manager Mark Cody. We were also proud to have HDA Board Members Betsy Clemons and Joey Jones on hand for the celebration.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to Store Manager Tabitha Little and the entire TJX/TJ Maxx team for selecting HDA as the recipient of this generous support. Partnerships like these create meaningful impact and help strengthen communities.

Opening a TJ Maxx store in Hazard represents growth, opportunity, and continued economic development for Perry County and surrounding communities. New businesses bring new energy, investment, jobs, and momentum to our region - and we’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone alongside them. ✨

"Welcoming TJ Maxx to Hazard is an exciting moment for our community. We’re grateful not only for this investment but for the opportunity to build a lasting partnership that strengthens families and neighborhoods across the area."- HDA Executive Director Scott McReynolds

Please join us in giving TJ Maxx a warm welcome to Hazard! 🎊 We’re excited to see the positive impact this new chapter brings to our community.

📸 Thanks to John Taylor and Janet Prater-Smith (Hazard-Perry County Chamber of Commerce) for the photos.

🏠🔨 Building momentum across Perry & Knott Counties!

Our framing crews have been busy this spring, working on new home builds across scattered sites in the four East KY counties we serve - from Blue Sky / Lynn Lee to Amils Mountain and beyond.

These homes are taking shape one wall, one roofline & one family at a time. 💛

While we’re looking ahead to a second phase of construction at Chestnut Ridge, our crews haven’t slowed down - continuing to build on high-ground sites and across the region to make sure more families have access to safe, quality, affordable housing.

At HDA, this is what “build what lasts” looks like: showing up in communities, staying flexible, and keeping progress moving - no matter where the work takes us. 🏡

📸 Take a look at what’s underway!

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! ☀️

We’re excited to kick off a brand-new tradition: Wednesday Employee Spotlights! 🎊

Each week, we’ll randomly select a team member to highlight the incredible work our staff and carpenters do for the Housing Development Alliance and our community.

Our very first spotlight is on Ashley Sumner, Assistant to the Director of Construction. Ashley’s journey with HDA is a testament to her commitment; she first joined us as an AmeriCorps member, and through her hard work and passion, she has transitioned into her current role.

Outside of the office, Ashley is a busy mom of four, yet she still manages to bring an unmatched level of dedication to her professional life. She is deeply committed to our mission, taking immense pride in every project and finding true fulfillment in helping our community thrive. We are so lucky to have her on the team!

Please join us in celebrating Ashley and all she does to help us build a better community!
