A big thank you to the North Randall Fire Department for the invitation to participate in yesterday's joint auto extrication training.

A special thank you to Luke Rickettss from Howell Rescue Systems for providing outstanding instruction to everyone who attended. The knowledge, experience, and hands-on training were invaluable.

This week, our area is expected to experience dangerously high temperatures. Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your pets.

☀️ Heat Safety Tips
💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🏠 Stay indoors in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
🌳 Limit time in the sun, especially during the hottest part of the day (10 AM – 4 PM).
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored, and loose-fitting clothing.
🧢 Wear a hat and sunscreen if you must be outside.
👵 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.
🚑 Signs of Heat Exhaustion

Watch for:
Heavy sweating
Cool, pale, clammy skin
Weakness or fatigue
Dizziness or fainting
Headache
Muscle cramps
Nausea or vomiting
Fast, weak pulse

➡️ Move the person to a cool place, loosen clothing, apply cool wet cloths, and have them sip water. If symptoms worsen or last longer than an hour, seek medical attention.

🚨 Signs of Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency)

Heat stroke is life-threatening. Call 911 immediately if someone has:

Body temperature of 103°F or higher
Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
Confusion or altered mental status
Slurred speech
Seizures
Loss of consciousness
Rapid, strong pulse

➡️ Move the person to a cooler area and cool them with wet cloths or ice packs while waiting for emergency responders. Do not give them anything to drink if they are unconscious or confused.

🐾 Don't Forget Your Pets!
🥣 Provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
❄️ Keep pets indoors or in a cool, shaded area.
🐕 Avoid walking dogs on hot pavement—it can burn their paws. If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet.
🚗 Never leave a child or pet in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and take a few moments to check on those who may need assistance. A simple phone call or visit could make all the difference.
