There are three new bestsellers, four new movies, six new children's books, and three other new books.

The new bestsellers this week are "Big Little Truths," "House Hushing: The Simple Method to Declutter and Decorate for a More Peaceful Home," and "Etna." The new movies this week include "The Mandalorian and Grogu," "Disclosure Day," and "The Sheep Detectives."

Join us at 10 am on Saturday, September 19 (rain date Saturday, September 26) for a historical tour of the Damon Memorial building, home to the Gale Free Library, led by Local History Librarian Nancy Richards. Join us for our monthly Art Club this Wednesday, August 26, from 6-7:30pm! Bring your own supplies or use ours. We have watercolor paints and paper, brushes, pastels, colored pencils, graphite, pens, collage materials, and more! There will be no specific project. Each month, we'll have a quotation or a book or an image available to inspire a(n optional) response. This program is intended for patrons of all abilities, ages 16 and up. However, we embrace multigenerational art experiences. Children are welcome to join a registered adult. The tents across from the Library are a great reminder that Saturday is Holden Days! If past years are any indication, tomorrow is going to be a very busy day in town! Stop by the Library this Saturday during Holden Days–our Library's therapy dog Maggie will be greeting people on the front lawn from 10:30-11:30am (weather permitting, otherwise in the Program Room), and the Book Cellar will be open from 9am-12:30pm.

If you have a Library visit planned to pick up museum passes, books on hold, or your next great read, but would prefer to avoid tomorrow’s crowds, we are open until 5:30pm today.

We will have a special guest visiting us this Saturday during Holden Days--our friend Maggie! Join us at “Mornings with Maggie” from 10:30am-11:30am–weather permitting, we will be out greeting people on the front lawn. Otherwise, Maggie will be visiting her fans in the Program Room on the elevator-accessible second floor of the Library. Maggie and her person Kelly are a certified therapy team through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Drop by to say “HI!” when you’re at Holden Days!

You’re looking at a photo of the third location of Holden High School, ready for occupancy in 1926 and originally called the Alonzo K. Learned High School. While the building no longer exists (fire destroyed much of it in 1980), the sidewalk from Main Street remains. After Wachusett Regional High School was completed in 1954, this building became Holden’s first Junior High. Guess what now occupies the area where this structure once stood?
