🌿✨ Open House Today (6/2) at SEEQS! ✨🌿

What happens when middle school students are trusted to tackle real questions and problems around sustainability?

At SEEQS, students explore questions like:

🌊 How does the ocean sustain Hawaiian culture?
🏙 How can we design Hawaiʻi's communities for the future?
🤝 How can service create meaningful change?

They learn through field experiences, community partnerships, public presentations, and hands-on projects that connect learning to the world around them.

Today is your chance to see that learning in action!

🎓 These students were once nervous 5th graders, too.

Last week, we celebrated our 8th graders as they crossed the stage and prepared for high school. Listening to them reflect on their growth, friendships, challenges, and accomplishments reminded us why middle school matters so much.

The right middle school doesn't just prepare students for the next grade level.

It helps them discover who they are.

If you're still exploring options for next year, we'd love to meet you at our final Open House.

🎓 What kind of young person do you hope your child becomes by the end of middle school?

Yesterday at SEEQS, we celebrated our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony, and one theme echoed throughout the students' speeches:

Growth.

Students spoke about finding their voice, building confidence, developing meaningful friendships, overcoming challenges, learning from mistakes, and discovering their responsibility to their communities and our world.

One student reflected, "What if I didn't choose SEEQS? I probably wouldn't be the person I am today."

Another shared how SEEQS taught them not only about sustainability, but how to sustain friendships, relationships, dreams, and community.

These moments remind us that middle school is about so much more than academics. It's about helping young people become thoughtful, capable, and compassionate citizens who are ready for whatever comes next.

✨ If you're exploring middle school options for your child, we'd love to share what makes SEEQS different.

🌺✨ What a beautiful day of culture, community, and celebration at SEEQS! ✨🌺

Last week, our 2nd annual Hoʻolauleʻa brought together students, families, faculty, and community partners for a day filled with ʻike, connection, and joy, a true reflection of learning rooted in Hawaiʻi and grounded in community. 🌿

Throughout the day, SEEQers participated in hands-on workshops including: Ukulele, Lei making: kui & wili styles, Niu processing, Woodblock printing with .hulalilali, Makahiki games including ulumaika, hukihuki, and moa paheʻe, Tai Chi and Hawaiian cultural games.

The day also included an ʻono potluck lunch serenaded by our jam band of staff, students, and parents. We enjoyed beautiful student performances and ended with a joyful staff and parent kani ka pila that reminded us what makes SEEQS so special, learning that connects culture, community, and purpose.

As we closed the day singing Hawaiʻi Aloha together as one school ʻohana, we were reminded of the importance of ma ka hana ka ʻike, aloha, and multi-generational learning. 💚

Mahalo nui to our students, families, community guests, and staff for helping create such a meaningful experience for our SEEQS ʻohana!

✨ What a season at SEEQS! ✨

From powerful 8th Grade Portfolio Defenses to sustainability expos, theatre performances, and upcoming EQS Exhibitions, our students continue to show what meaningful, connected learning looks like! 🌿🎤

One of the most inspiring moments of the year is seeing our 8th graders publicly defend their learning, reflecting on years of growth, collaboration, and development of the SEEQS Sustainability Skills before a panel of teachers, peers, families, and community members.

This is what makes SEEQS special:
🌱 Learning grounded in purpose
🤝 A community that shows up for one another
🌎 Students connecting their learning to Hawaiʻi and the world around them

And we’re not done yet! Next week, SEEQers will share their semester-long work during our EQS Exhibitions, showcasing advocacy, research, design, and real-world problem solving.

💚 Mahalo to our teachers, families, panelists, and community partners who make these experiences possible.

📣 We still have a few openings in incoming 6th and 8th grade for the 2026–2027 school year!

✨ Interested families are invited to our final Open House of the year on Tuesday, June 2 at 4:30PM at SEEQS.

✨ Getting Ready for Portfolio Defense at SEEQS! ✨

Our classrooms are preparing for one of the most important demonstrations of learning at SEEQS: our8th Grade Portfolio Defense. 🎤🌿

Throughout their years at SEEQS, students build a portfolio of work that demonstrates their growth in developing the SEEQS Sustainability Skills. In 8th grade, SEEQers curate their strongest work into a portfolio and deliver a public defense of their learning before a panel, making the case that they are ready for the next stage of their education.

This process reflects what makes SEEQS different.
Students are challenged not only to learn, but to:
🌱 Reflect deeply on their growth
🗣 Communicate their thinking with confidence
🤝 Demonstrate collaboration and problem-solving
🌊 Connect learning to real-world challenges in Hawaiʻi and beyond

We are proud of the hard work, courage, and growth our students show through this meaningful tradition. 💚

📣 Applications are still open for Grades 6–8 for the 2026–2027 school year!

⚡️ Charging Toward a Greener Future!

We are having an incredible time at the Energy & Sustainability Expo at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall today! It’s been so inspiring to see the local solutions showcased to tackle high energy prices and build a more resilient Hawaiʻi.

At SEEQS, we believe sustainability is our kuleana. It’s about more than just the environment; it’s about food security and lowering the high cost of living so our people can thrive in the islands they love.

But we aren’t just here to learn! We are here to grow our ohana! 🎓✨

🌟 Join Our Mission!
We are hiring amazing educators and taking student applications (grades 6-8) for the 2026-2027 school year!

We’re looking for dedicated individuals ready to help our keiki tackle Essential Questions about our watersheds, energy grids, and our island home!

📸 What’s happening at the SEEQS booth:
• Discovering how our students engage in real-world island issues.
• Sharing our mission as a Honolulu public charter school rooted in creating the next generation of stewards of planet earth.
• Recruiting the next generation of leaders who understand that He aliʻi ka ʻāina, he kauwā ke kanaka (The land is a chief; man is its servant).

If you’re at the Expo, come by, say aloha, and see what happens when we give young people the tools to save their world. Let’s work together for a more sustainable Hawaiʻi! 💚🍃🌱🪴
