Federal agents fired pepper balls at protesters outside Delaney Hall in Newark on Monday following days of unrest outside the privately run immigration detention center.

U.S. Sen. Andy Kim said he had trouble breathing from the cloud of pepper spray deployed as a growing crowd of protesters responding to an inmate hunger strike demonstrated outside.

“What we saw here is unfortunately just what we see all over the country,” Kim, D-N.J., told NJ.com on Monday.

This Memorial Day, as America approaches the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, we pause to honor the generations of brave men and women who gave their lives defending the promise of freedom, democracy, and opportunity.

For 250 years, Americans have answered the call to serve, in times of war, uncertainty, and sacrifice, so future generations could live in liberty.

Today, we remember those heroes not only as Americans, but as neighbors, friends, and family members from communities just like ours here in Cape May County. Their service and sacrifice are forever woven into the story of our nation and the hometowns they loved.

From all of us at the Cape May County Democratic Committee, we honor and remember the fallen this Memorial Day.

Despite the damp weather, the spirit was strong this morning at the 11th annual Flags for Liberty event in Wildwood.

Attorney General Jen Davenport, Wildwood’s hometown daughter, joined Governor Sherrill in welcoming guests and recognizing the many people and organizations whose dedication has helped build and sustain this meaningful tradition year after year.

Governor Sherrill also paid tribute to all of our servicemen and women, with special recognition for our Gold Star families whose sacrifice can never be forgotten.

A special thank you as well to Joe Griffies for his unwavering commitment to supporting our veterans and their families. 🇺🇸

Congressman Van Drew voted to continue the war in Iran unchecked, which passed by just 1 vote, his vote.
South Jersey families are already struggling with rising costs, higher gas prices, and an economy that feels stacked against working people. The President said it, 'we can't pay for Childcare, Medicare and Medicaid we have to fund the war.' In Congress I'll vote against endless conflict in the Middle East, I'll vote for funding our Veterans, funding Childcare, Medicare, and Medicaid.
I'll pledge my "undying support" to the Constitution and to the people of South Jersey, not the will of one man!
