September 11, 2001 changed my life and the trajectory of my future forever.

Like so many Americans, I watched that day unfold in disbelief. But what stayed with me most was the courage of the firefighters, police officers, first responders, and ordinary people who ran toward danger when everyone else was trying to get away.

That day created a calling in me.

It was a major reason I made the decision to join the Houston Fire Department and dedicate a large part of my life to serving others. More than two decades later, the lessons of September 11 still influence how I lead, how I serve, and why the mission behind Williams Safety & Rescue means so much to me.

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the countless first responders, families, and communities whose lives were forever changed.

We honor their courage by remembering their sacrifice and continuing to serve with purpose.

😂 You got knocked out… by OSHA!

We’ve all seen that look on the jobsite:

“Wait… you mean I actually have to follow the safety rules?” 😳

YES. Yes, you do. 😂

Because nothing ruins a good Friday faster than hearing:

🚨 “OSHA is here.”
🚨 “Who signed this JSA?”
🚨 “Where’s your PPE?”
🚨 “Who’s the competent person?”

👀 👀

Well… apparently I made Founder Friday. 😂

I’m much more comfortable talking about safety, HazMat, drilling rigs, rescue operations, and taking care of people than I am talking about myself — but I have to admit, it’s pretty cool seeing part of my story featured by Startup Deal Desk.

From spending more than two decades with the Houston Fire Department, including years on a HazMat team, to working in the oil & gas industry and eventually building Williams Safety & Rescue… it definitely hasn’t been a straight road.

There have been long days, late nights, plenty of lessons learned the hard way, and more than a few moments of wondering, “What in the hell did I get myself into?” 😂

But I’ve been fortunate.

Fortunate to work alongside some incredible firefighters, safety professionals, employees, customers, mentors, friends, and family who have helped me along the way.

Building a company is never a one-person accomplishment. Williams Safety & Rescue is where it is today because of the people who believed in the vision and helped turn it into something real.

And we’re still just getting started.

A big thank you to Startup Deal Desk for featuring my story in Founder Friday. I’m humbled by the recognition — although I’m pretty sure my wife and kids will make sure this doesn’t go to my head. 😂
