Child Advocates We speak up for children who are lost in the foster system and guide them into a safe environment. Volunteers who make a difference in the lives of children.

There's no easy answer to the ever-present "What is Child Advocates?"

Very simply, our organization trains and supports volunteers. These volunteers are assigned to the cases of children who have been victims of life-threatening abuse or neglect and - as a result - have been placed in protective custody. Our volunteers contact caseworkers, interview parents, ensure necessary medical care, look out for educational interests and make recommendations in court regarding the permanent placement of the child. They dry tears and give hugs and throw birthday parties too. Most importantly, they serve as a "constant" person for that child to count on during a very tumultuous time. Essentially, our volunteers do whatever it takes to ensure that the needs of the child are being met while that child is in care.

Introducing our Volunteer of the Month, Hiram Flores! 👏Hiram became an advocate in November 2025 and is currently working on his first case. He has been a stable, patient and encouraging presence for a six-year-old girl in foster care.

Amid constant changes, Hiram has been there every step of the way, making sure she has the support, care and consistency she needs to heal and thrive. And, of course, they’ve found time for some fun along the way! One of their favorite activities to do together is to jump rope.

Children who have experienced abuse or neglect need more than services. They need someone in their corner. Someone who is ready to listen, speak up and show up. That’s what it means to be a court-appointed advocate. 🩵

After being moved to a new placement, one kiddo started calling his advocate frequently, saying how bored he was and how he just wanted to talk to her.

So, when his advocate arrived for their next visit, she came prepared with two board games. His face lit up, and he was jumping with excitement! They spent the next hour playing Monopoly and laughing together. As it was time for his advocate to leave, he looked at her and said, “I’m really going to miss you.”

These little moments mean everything to a child whose world has been turned upside down. A familiar face, a listening ear and an hour spent simply being a kid can make all the difference. 🫶
