Department Chair and Professor of Sociology Amanda Baumle recently shared her insights with PolitiFact in the article "Fact-checking a claim about immigrants and California’s 'extra' House seats." Dr. Baumle, a demography expert, says the claim of six appears to be based on apportionment analyses based on only U.S. citizens being counted, and not lawful permanent residents or other non-citizens with legal status.
